Some classic characters from the 1980s Dungeons and Dragons cartoon are coming to the D&D strategy game, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms.

According to IGN, with the release of the 100th champion imminent, developer Codename Entertainment is planning to celebrate by including the Dungeon Master from the 1983 Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. While Dungeon Master is the only character from the animation that will become a champion in the game so far, two other characters will join Idle Champions as villains. Venger, the primary antagonist of the show, and Tiamat, the legendary goddess from Dungeons and Dragons, will try to impede players' progress. "This was our 100th Champion, and we had a lot of classic D&D characters to choose from," said Chris Dupuis, Idle Champions' Live Services Manager. "However, when we finally landed on Dungeon Master, everything clicked into place - I knew we had something special brewing."

The Dungeon Master will be available for players to unlock The Running event, which begins April 27 and ends May 9. Uni the Unicorn will also be available as part of the content drop. Much like his character in the show, the Dungeon Master tends to disappear, and when he does, Uni takes his place.

Idle Champions, a free-to-play D&D strategy game for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC and mobile devices, incorporates characters from different novels, campaigns and shows into a massive D&D crossover game. Content creators such as Mark Meer, Anna Prosser and B. Dave Walters contribute to the game, helping the developers to create new D&D content with this blend of old and contemporary sources.

The Dungeons and Dragons animated series ran from 1983 to 1985 and aired 27 episodes. It follows six children who are transported to the realm of D&D by a portal they discover on an amusement park ride. In order to return home, the Dungeon Master assigns each child a distinct role and sends them on a series of adventures. Due to the "satanic panic" of the time and accusations that the tabletop game could cause children to worship the Devil or even kill themselves, Dungeons and Dragons was canceled before its final episode could be completed.

Aside from the new characters releasing on April 27, Idle Champions will also release the first round of localization, with support for French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, and Simplified Chinese coming to the game.

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is available now for free on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC and mobile devices.
