While there have been doubts regarding whether Denis Villeneuve's Dune will stick to Warner Bros.' plan of releasing its entire slate of 2021 films in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, Johanna Fuentes -- who serves as Head of Communications for WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group -- assures the latest film adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel will arrive on the streaming platform the same day it hits theaters in the United States.Deadline claimed in a recent report that Dune "will not adhere to the day-and-date release pattern established for the entire 2021 slate. Instead, it will premiere in Venice in September and then enter theaters for a time before finding its way to streaming service HBO Max." Fuentes responded to this report on Twitter, writing, "[Dune] will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day in the U.S. (Source: Warner Bros.)."RELATED: Dune Will Be a World-Changing Film, Promises Dave Bautista

As Deadline mentions in its original article, Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein also reaffirmed Dune's Oct. 1 release date and stated that the film was still slated to release in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day.

Produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, Villeneuve's Dune is based upon Herbert's genre-defining sci-fi novel of the same name, which was originally published in 1965. The novel was previously adapted for the big screen in 1984, with David Lynch's Dune hitting theaters in December of that year. The novel received another live-action adaptation in 2000, with a three-part miniseries titled Frank Herbert's Dune airing on the Sci Fi Channel (now known as Syfy). A sequel miniseries, Frank Herbert's Children of Dune, aired on the Sci Fi Channel in 2003.

Villeneuve's film reboot of Dune was originally scheduled for release on Nov. 20, 2020, though was delayed to Dec. 18, 2020. The film was delayed again shortly thereafter due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and is now set for release on Oct. 1. While a Dune sequel has yet to be officially greenlit by Legendary, a second film is planned, with Villeneuve explaining that the first film will cover roughly half of the original novel. However, the director also expressed concern that Warner Bros.' plan to release Dune on HBO Max the same day it hits theaters could lead to it underperforming financially, thus putting a sequel in jeopardy. Nevertheless, Legendary Television is also expected to produce a spinoff/prequel series for HBO Max, titled Dune: The Sisterhood.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, Dune stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Chang Chen as Dr. Wellington Yueh, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Dr. Liet Kynes, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Stephen Henderson as Thufir Hawat and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Oct. 1.
