With pre-production well underway on Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Dune, actor Kyle MacLachlan -- who starred the 1984 original adaptation -- has some advice for the reboot's new lead.While appearing on Buzzfeed News' AM to DM, MacLachlan provided some cheeky advice to new star Timothee Chalamet.RELATED: The Dune Reboot Could Be the Next Lord of the Rings

"Go easy on the spice," MacLachlan joked. In the novel and film, Dune's society centered on an interplanetary spice trade that has become a popular drug.

On a more serious note, MacLachlan revealed himself as a genuine fan of the 1965 original novel by Frank Herbert and wished Villeneuve and the cast and crew luck in adapting the classic story.

"It’s a challenging piece of material to try to bring to the screen, so I wish him luck with that," MacLachlan said to the Blade Runner 2049 director. "If anyone can do it, he’ll do a great job. He’s a great filmmaker."

Directed and co-written by Denis Villeneuve, Dune stars Timothee Chalamet, Stellan Skarsgard, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling and Dave Bautista. The film currently does not have an announced release date.
