Even Netflix executives cried at the plot for Stranger Things Season 5.

"[For] two hours, we pitched the full season to Netflix. We did get our executives to cry, which I thought was a good sign," co-creator Matt Duffer said at a Netflix SAG FYC event on Nov. 13. "The only other time I've seen them cry is like, budget meetings." Joining the Duffer Brothers, director and executive producer Shawn Levy and cast members Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, Eduardo Franco and Millie Bobby Brown answered host Patton Oswalt's questions.

On Nov. 6, the day Will Byers first went missing in 1983, fans celebrated Stranger Things Day. To commemorate the annual event, the show's official Twitter account announced the title of Season 5's first episode, "Chapter One: The Crawl." As for the storyline, the plot details remain scarce for the upcoming eight-episode season, but it will take place following the previous installment's explosive cliffhanger.

Stranger Things Season 5 Will Harken Back to the Original Episodes

Despite the lack of plot information, co-creator Ross Duffer opened up about the storytelling approach for the upcoming season of Stranger Things. "[Season 5], the way we see it, is kind of a culmination of all the seasons, so it's sort of got a little bit from each," he said. "Whereas before each season was so distinct... [Season] 3 is our big summer blockbuster season with big monsters, and [Season] 4 was the psychological horror. I think that what we're trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit, in sort of the tone of [Season 1]."

Since Stranger Things' first season, viewers have said their goodbyes to many beloved characters, including Eddie Munson and Bob Newby. Even the show's cast members are clueless about who will get the axe. Despite their uncertainty, several stars have weighed in on what they believe their characters deserve.

"I would love to die and get my hero's moment," said Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley. "I'd love to die with honor, as any actor would but I love the way that the Duffer Brothers love their actors." Additionally, David Harbour believes Hopper "deserves peace" following the multiple hardships he's faced in the past few seasons.

The first four seasons of Stranger Things are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 5 does not yet have a release date but is expected to arrive in 2024.
