DuckTales is full of fantastical elements, including aliens, monsters and magic around every corner. But one of the most consistently impressive -- and mysterious -- elements is Scrooge McDuck himself. An almost unstoppable adventure, Scrooge has been alive for over a century by the events of the series, although the full story of his longer life-span has never been fully explored.

However, that may change soon enough. The title for an upcoming episode of DuckTales seems to hint that the Duck family might find their universe's Fountain of Youth, which would be a natural time to reveal more about Scrooge McDuck's apparent immortality.

Throughout DuckTales, it's implied that Scrooge McDuck has been granted some form of extended life. He's been an old man for decades, having been alive for over half a century by this point -- Scrooge was confirmed to have been born in 1867 in Scotland, and first made a name for himself in America over a hundred years ago. He's been hinted to have spent a great deal of time in other dimensions, and he's been exposed to plenty of magical items and artifacts, all of which may have affected his body. While he is finally starting to show signs of his age -- such as injuring his back during the events of "The Town Where Everybody Was Nice!" -- there still have been no signs of being anywhere near death. This fact has even led some of his relatives to question just how old Scrooge really is, out of genuine confusion.

Immortality also definitely exists as a certainty within the DuckTales universe, as Scrooge's parents are currently dealing with the ramifications of having it. After making his fortunes in America, Scrooge returned to his ancestral home and rebuilt McDuck Castle. But because he used discount Druid stones, a curse came with the reconstructed building -- they became immortal and only able to interact with the outside world once every five years. Meanwhile, Scrooge's long-time romantic flame/treasure-hunting rival Goldie has also been shown to have similar longevity to her lifespan. Other characters who've been alive that long have only survived through more extreme means, such as Rockerduck being frozen in amber.

There's a possibility that DuckTales might be exploring that concept a little more in the coming episodes, however. Among the episode-titles revealed for the next batch of DuckTales episodes coming includes "The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!" While it could just be a coincidence, it's possible the reference to a fountain and the "Foreverglades" could be an allusion to how in the Carl Barks comic story "That's No Fable," Scrooge drank from the Fountain of Youth.

The Fountain of Youth would also be the exact kind of treasure that Season 3's overarching hunt for lost artifacts could be searching for. However, it could also raise the question of immortality, and what exactly are the circumstances and rules of whatever version of that power Scrooge possesses. Scrooge's lengthened life-space has been a constant factor for the character for the entirety of DuckTales, but much of his past still remains a mystery. This episode could illuminate some elements of his past, or at least give fans an idea of how Scrooge has lasted so long.

DuckTales will return with all new episodes on Sept. 21 on Disney XD. Both seasons of Darkwing Duck are currently streaming on Disney+.
