Pearce, who created the British superhero-comedy series No Heroics, also wrote Marvel's planned adaptation of Runaways, the comic created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. That project had been on the fast track last year, with Peter Sollett (Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist) set to direct, until the studio pulled the brakes in December.
Marvel selected Black to take over the Iron Man franchise in February, just two months after Jon Favreau walked away from the job. The sequel will reunite Black with Robert Downey Jr., who starred in his 2005 directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
According to Deadline, the plan is for Pearce to start from scratch, working closely with Black on the screenplay. Iron Man 3 will be released on May 3, 2013.
