DreamWorks Pictures came out the high bidder for "Alpha Squad Seven," a sci-fi action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, details about the pitch from Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer ("The Karate Kid 2") are closely guarded -- beyond that it's set in space -- but "'Independence Day,' 'Armageddon' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy' are some of the watchwords."

The studio envisions "Alpha Squad Seven" as the launchpad for a new franchise, of course.

Beau Flynn, who's worked with Johnson on such films as "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," "Hercules" and "San Andreas," is attached to produce.
