Kids' movies, by and large, are not afraid to get weird. Whether it is their premises, characters, plots, or humor, movies with a child or family audience in mind can often go in for concepts that are a little more 'out there.' As one of the premier studios for animated movies, DreamWorks certainly does not shy away from strangeness.

In particular, the dialogue in DreamWorks films can get very odd indeed. Trying to appeal to children while also being entertaining for adults, they often blend the absurd and the witty into the same films. The result is a portfolio of very strange quotes, whether in or out of context.

10 "Thanks For The Um, Breast-Hat." — Hiccup, How To Train Your Dragon

Hiiccup holding his new helmet in How To Train Your Dragon

Much of the first How to Train Your Dragon film deals with Hiccup struggling to fit in with Viking culture, being a peaceful and inquisitive person. A major thread through that is Hiccup's awkward relationship with his father Stoick, who doesn't understand Hiccup but nonetheless loves him.

One token of his affection is giving Hiccup a helmet with family ties — namely, that it is made from one-half of Hiccup's mother's breastplate. Given its distinctive shape as well as its origin, Hiccup feels slightly awkward but wears it anyway, saying the above unusual line to his father.

9 "I'm Helping Him Sue The Human Race." — Vanessa, Bee Movie

Vanessa tells Ken she's helping Barry sue humanity Bee Movie

Bee Movie is already an unusual piece as a movie about the friendship between a bee named Barry and a human named Vanessa. More than a few people have noticed romantic undertones in the film — especially when Vanessa breaks up with her husband. As such, a great number of its quotes are strange.

The most fundamentally unusual quote that nicely serves as a summary of the film is when Vanessa says the above to her husband to explain why she has been spending so much time with Barry. Even the husband finds it an incredibly weird notion.

8 "Is This A Robbery? 'Cause The Lady Across The Hall Has Way Better Stuff Than Me." — Hal, Megamind

Hal Stewart meets Megamind movie

Megamind is one of the more normal outings for a DreamWorks movie, a story about an ineffectual and ultimately well-intentioned supervillain and his life after he seemingly kills his archnemesis superhero. Its main antagonist is Hal, a misogynist who grossly misuses his superpowers after Megamind grants them to him.

Before Hal's true nature is revealed, however, there is a scene much earlier where Hal begs Megamind to rob somebody else. Seemingly a one-off joke and a strange thing for a prominent character in a film to say, it turns out to be a foreshadowing of his personality.

7 "Release The Baby." — Grug, The Croods

Sandy Crood clinging onto her mother The Croods movie

One of the first scenes in caveman comedy The Croods focuses on the titular family as they steal an egg for breakfast. Being a DreamWorks comedy, things swiftly go wrong as a number of creatures — including the egg's mother — begin to fight over the food.

As the bird runs off with the egg, the father, Grug Crood, gives the above command. Already strange, things don't become more normal with any haste as the baby, Sandy Crood, runs the bird down and battles it for control of the egg.

6 "Yeah, But Shadows. They're Not Inherently Fast." — Turbo, Turbo

White Shadow discusses the speed of shadows with Turbo movie

Of all DreamWorks movies, Turbo is one of the more unusual, telling a tale of a snail whose DNA bonds with nitrous oxide following an accident with an engine, and develops super-speed. Obviously, a lot of the dialogue is going to be strange.

However, the oddest line isn't even about the snail with nitrous bonded to him on a molecular level. Turbo speaks to another racing snail by the name of 'The White Shadow.' The result is a highly odd discussion about the choice of name and a disagreement over whether shadows are fast or not. In any film, it's just strange.

5 "Excuse Me, You're Biting My Butt." — Marty, Madagascar

Alex bites Marty's rear end Madagascar movie

The human rear is a frequent source of comedy for all ages, for all manner of reasons. Nonetheless, a lot of family entertainment is more coy with references and jokes about it to avoid the risk of offending anybody who finds them unsuitable for children.

A major plotline in Madagascar revolves around Alex the Lion struggling from hunger, unused to having to feed himself and being surrounded by prey animals trying to befriend him. When particularly overcome, he hallucinates everyone around him as steaks and bites onto one. He gets his friend Marty in a particular place, and the result is a quote that would be odd in any film.

4 "Who's Ready To Get Ripping Tattoos Everywhere Except Our Faces In Case We Still Need Office Jobs?" — Branch, Trolls: World Tour

Branch turned into a Rock Zombie in Trolls: World Tour movie

Despite being a well-received hit for DreamWorks, the Trolls series is more than slightly strange, telling about Trolls divided into tribes by musical preference. Nonetheless, for the most part, its humor is relatively sensible and straightforward, even where its plot isn't.

Late into Trolls: World Tour, most of the cast are turned into 'Rock Zombies' by Queen Barb of the 'Hard Rock' Trolls. Branch, one of the heroes, says this above. It's odd for a number of reasons, including being another potshot at rock fans, well above the heads of a youthful audience, and indicating that musical, fun-loving Trolls have offices and white-collar jobs.

3 "Yes, I'm The Baby Jesus." — Theodore, The Boss Baby

The Boss Baby sarcastically declares himself to be Jesus

Another DreamWorks film stranger than most, The Boss Baby follows two brothers, one of whom is secretly an agent for Baby Corp, a company run entirely by incredibly-advanced babies. The film's sheer oddness dominates much of the discussion around it.

At one point, when the baby — Theodore — is explaining the situation to his brother, he explains he's been sent on a mission "from above," causing Tim to misunderstand and ask if he is Jesus Christ. Theodore deadpans the above response. It's only somewhat weird in context, but it's an unexpectedly blasphemous turn for the company when taken out of context.

2 "But It Can Be Easily Reheated In The Microwave Of Evil!" — Megamind, Megamind

Megamind and Metro Man argue through a screen in Megamind movie

Part of the humor of Megamind is that none of the supers in the film are much good at their jobs. Early in the film, Megamind leads his nemesis Metro Man into a trap using the captive Roxanne Ritchi. Rather than try to escape or save Roxanne, Metro Man instead spends time trying to conversationally one-up his foe.

As they argue, they start off arguing about trapping justice, only to go further and further off-tangent with each metaphor they use. Somehow, the conversation shifts to Megamind's microwave of evil and whether or not it can reheat revenge. Impressively, there is a complete train of conversation that logically leads to this very, very strange line.

1 "For You, Baby, I Could Be." — Puss In Boots, Shrek 2

Puss in Boots flirts with Fiona in Shrek 2 movie

A major plot twist in Shrek 2 sees Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey change into new forms as the result of a magic potion. Fiona is returned to her human form and sets about trying to find Shrek — who is also looking for her. Instead, she comes across the transformed Donkey and new ally Puss-in-Boots. Unsure, she asks if Puss is Shrek, leading to the above quote.

The Shrek movies have never been afraid of risque dialogue or jokes. But this scene is undeniably a cat — even a speaking, bipedal one — flirting with a human woman. Most films wouldn't go near that subject matter — although given that Donkey marries a Dragon, it's not unmarked territory for the franchise.
