In this feature, I spotlight five scenes/moments from within comic book stories that fit under a specific theme (basically, stuff that happens frequently in comics).

Today we look at five instances of the "fastball special" where Wolverine is being thrown by someone other than Colossus.

As you know, the "fastball special" is a popular move that Colossus and Wolverine have worked on over the years where the super-strong Colossus will throw the relatively small Wolverine in the air to attack an opponent. The idea is that Wolverine, due to his healing powers, can withstand any impact and therefore it takes the fight to the enemy quickly (especially helpful considering neither Colossus nor Wolverine can fly).

The move has been done on occasion with other characters throwing Wolverine. Here are five times it has happened...

Tito Bohusk Jr. is the grandson of Beak, a supporting cast member in Grant Morrison's New X-Men run. In the storyline set 150 years in the future, Tito is a member of the X-Men along with Wolverine. Here, Tito gets the chance he has always dreamed of - doing the fastball special with Wolverine...



In New Avengers Annual #1, Ms. Marvel and Wolverine pull off the maneuver "Avengers style"...



In She-Hulk #16, She-Hulk and Wolverine pull off their variation of the technique (with hilarious Dan Slott dialogue and awesome Rich Burchett art)...





In Astonishing X-Men #26, Armor takes a crack at it...





Finally, in Marvel's Free Comic Day 2009 comic book, by Brian Michael Bendis and Jimmy Cheung, Luke Cage does the maneuver...
