When a television show debuts, first impressions are vital to deciding if the series gets renewed or becomes a one-season wonder. However, viewership isn't the sole deciding factor. Cast turnover, budget changes, and plot direction all contribute to the decision to renew or cancel a TV show.

As 2022 draws to a close, fans are left to wonder if they will see if some of their favorite drama shows will be following them into the new year. Some dramas may be canceled, but it's likely that these 10 will be given one more season to finish their respective story.

10 Vampire Academy Is Struggling To Stand Out

Vampire Academy - Peacock

The Vampire Academy adaptation on Peacock is not the only time this book series has been adapted for the screen. Vampire Academy's previous film version was generally regarded as poor, and this TV reboot has made up for many of the failings of the film.

Despite this, Peacock's Vampire Academy is having a hard time standing out and making itself unique among other similar teen fantasy shows. If the series gains a second-season renewal, it will likely be the final season unless the show can find some way to separate itself from the crowd.

9 SkyMed Will Isn't Getting The Attention It Deserves

SkyMed - Paramount+

SkyMed protagonist characters Nowak and Tristan

SkyMed is a Canadian show that has perfected standing out from the crowd. The show's unique premise, intriguing and dramatic plotlines, and great acting have all the makings of a popular hit show. Unfortunately, it seems this show is a hidden gem and is not being seriously promoted like other shows available to stream on Paramount+.

SkyMed has not been renewed or canceled at this point, but there is a potential for a second-season renewal. However, due to the low promotion, and resulting low viewership, it's more than likely that the second season of SkyMed would be the last one.

8 CSI Vegas Will Likely End On Season 3

CSI Vegas - CBS

CSI Vegas main characters Josh and Allie

CSI: Vegas was CBS' great hope for revamping their deceased CSI franchise. When the series premiered, it gained traction with help from returning cast members, but has since struggled to find its own footing as it evolves into a show of its own.

The few episodes of Season 2 have seen CSI: Vegas make some minor progress in regard to this matter by developing some interesting storylines. These plot lines will likely carry them into a third-season renewal, but after that, they may fail to earn another season unless they can create another engrossing plotline that brings in viewers.

7 NCIS: Hawai'i Hasn't Made A Case For Itself

NCIS: Hawai'i - CBS

NCIS Hawaii main characters Lucy Tara and Kate Whistler

NCIS: Hawai'i is the latest NCIS spinoff, and certainly an underdog when compared to the other active NCIS shows, such as the original NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles, who have longevity and an established fandom on their side. NCIS: Hawai'i has done well with its character development and single-case episodes, but they've been lacking in creating compelling long-term case arcs.

This could prove dangerous for the series' longevity, as a crime show can only survive so long on a 'single case a week' format. While the NCIS origin may be enough to secure another season, the goodwill may run out at the end of Season 3 if they fail to make this change.

6 Quantum Leap Will Likely End On Season 2

Quantum Leap - NBC

Quantum Leap is Martin Gero's Worthy Follow-Up to Blindspot

Quantum Leap is a reboot of the classic Sci-Fi series, and it's proven quite pleasant to watch. The cast is excellent, and the episodes are the right mix of fun and heartfelt. Unfortunately, the ratings for this series are low in comparison to other shows on NBC & Peacock.

Met with mixed reviews and suffering from a switch in Showrunners during production, Quantum Leap has had a rough start. If Quantum Leap is lucky enough to avoid cancelation and gain another season, the show's low ratings continuing into the next season may prevent the young series from leaping into a third season.

5 So Help Me Todd Will Likely End On Season 2

So Help Me Todd - CBR

So Help Me Todd is another one of CBS' recent new series debuts with a semi-interesting plot line to try and find another big hit series to add to their repertoire. The series, about a high-end lawyer bringing her son into her firm in hopes of giving him some direction in his life, has uniqueness on its side, and the drama between the two leads is certainly interesting enough to garner at least some interest.

Sadly, that interest may not be enough. While So Help Me Todd will likely get a second season, past that, it's unlikely the series sustains itself unless the story becomes more inventive.

4 Shadow And Bone Will Likely End On Season 3

Shadow And Bone - Netflix

Shadow and Bone main characters Alina Starkov and General Kirigan

Shadow and Bone is an excellent Netflix original that topped Netflix's charts when it premiered and was an easy show to renew. However, the show is certainly a costly one to make, with all the special effects needed to make the fantasy elements of the series stand out.

Netflix's financial situation is less than stellar at the moment, so shows like Shadow And Bone are certainly at risk. The book series that served as inspiration for the series was a trilogy, so one final season after the upcoming Season 2 would conclude everything nicely for Netflix, while also freeing up their wallets.

3 You Will Likely End On Season 5

You - Netflix

Netflix's You's main character, Joe Goldberg

You has been a consistent hit for Netflix ever since it debuted, but after the wild Season 3 finale, it's hard to see how that could be topped. It certainly raised questions of if there was anything else left for the series to do.

Filming for Season 4 is currently underway, with the murderous Joe Goldberg taking his stalking activities abroad to Europe. Loyal fans will certainly be tuning in to see what bizarre plot line You will come up with next, so a Season 5 renewal is likely. Despite its popularity, Season 5 could very well be the final season simply because there just may not be any more of the story left to tell.

2 Henry Cavill Leaving The Witcher Has Likely Doomed The Series

The Witcher - Netflix

The Witcher's protagonist, Geralt.

The Witcher has made headlines recently for announcing that fan-favorite lead actor Henry Cavill will be replaced as Geralt by Liam Hemsworth for the Season 5 of the series. It's undeniable from the fan outrage following this announcement that a lot of the show's success was connected to Cavill's performance as The Witcher himself and his undeniable passion for the series.

Popular shows rarely continue to be successful when the star leaves, and the odds are against The Witcher. This cast change may very well prove to kill the series and have Season 5 be the final season of this show.

1 SEAL Team Will Likely End On Season 7

SEAL Team - Paramount+

SEAL Team members Sonny, Ray, Jason, and Clay

This season of SEAL Team has certainly given hints that the series is on its last legs. One of the protagonists since the very first season has been permanently sidelined, and the team's longevity has been at risk by bureaucratic politics. The topic of change has been used heavily in Season 6, so it's likely that SEAL Team is about to perform its final mission in the near future.

Considering the series was already in threat of cancellation before moving from CBR to Paramount+, the chances of it continuing much longer are low. If the series continues into Season 7, it will likely be a sendoff season to give a proper farewell to this long-running and popular series.
