Toei Animation appears to have prematurely announced a brand-new Dragon Ball Super film set for release in 2022.As reported by Twitter user @DBSChronicles, Toei is evidently planning to announce the second Dragon Ball Super movie this Sunday, May 9 -- which is recognized as Goku Day. However, an article regarding the announcement appears to have accidentally been shared to Toei Animation Europe's official website on May 5. Its headline reads, "Toei Animation Marks Goku Day with Surprise Announcement of New Dragon Ball Super Movie in 2022."RELATED: Dragon Ball Super: Battle of the Battles Will Unveil the Show's Greatest Fights of All-Time

Other users ventured to Toei's website to verify this report. One user shared screenshots of their efforts, stating that while the article itself has apparently been taken down, and simply leads to 404 error page, the preview for the article remained up for a time.

Written by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou, the Dragon Ball Super manga premiered in June 2015 as a sequel to Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga (which ran from 1984 to 1995 and spawned two anime series: 1986's Dragon Ball and 1989's Dragon Ball Z). The Dragon Ball Super anime launched one month after the manga, running for 131 episodes from July 2015 to March 2018. An English dub of the anime aired on Toonami in the United States from January 2017 to October 2019.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly hit theaters in December 2018 as the first feature film to carry the Dragon Ball Super branding. It is also the 20th Dragon Ball feature film overall, though only the third to be made with direct involvement from Toriyama. Dragon Ball Super: Broly is notable for introducing the character of Broly to the main Dragon Ball continuity following a number of non-canon appearances. Based on the apparent premature reveal, fans can likely expect a second Dragon Ball Super film to be officially announced for 2022 in the coming days.
