Artist Jerad S.Marantz revealed concept art on his Instagram for the poorly-received live-action Dragon Ball adaptation, Dragonball: Evolution.

The art in question shows the "Fu-Lum," the movie's equivalent of King Piccolo's demonic offspring from the original Dragonball. Like in the final movie itself, the design of these creatures is a large departure from the source material. In the original work, these creatures resembled their creator to a degree, albeit more dinosaur like. They also displayed unique personalities, a quality not shared by the film's version of the minions.

Dragonball: Evolution was released in 2009, directed by James Wong. It was an adaptation of the ever popular Dragonball franchise, drawing primarily from early portions of the story and not the later "Z" elements. The film failed both critically and financially, and was shunned by fans as well as the author of the original manga, Akira Toriyama. The film was criticized for its lack of faithfulness to the source material, and for ignoring the original author's suggestions.

Evolution's failure prompted Toriyama to come out of retirement and start working on his own Dragonball film, entirely under his creative direction. The result of this was Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods, a movie so well received that it effectively revived the dormant property on a global scale, and directly led to the sequel anime series: Dragonball Super.
