For most of his life after Sarai married Harrow, Callum was forced into a world he didn't quite fit in to, as, no matter how much training Soren gave him, he just couldn't get the hang of sword fighting or horse riding, things that were expected of him as a prince. After meeting Rayla and discovering Zym's egg hiding inside his castle, however, his life would change forever after finding out that he has a knack for all things magical.

Throughout most of The Dragon Prince, Callum has shown that he is a very capable mage, maybe even more so than characters who have been practicing magic for much longer, though he has also shown just how inexperienced he is and, from time to time, how lucky he can be.

10 PRODIGY: Used Aspiro After Seeing Claudia Use It Once

Callum using Aspiro for the first time

The first moment in Callum's life where he truly felt like he fit in was when he used Aspiro to disperse Claudia's smoke hounds, sent after him, Rayla, and Ezran while they tried to escape with Zym's egg. Having never performed magic in his life, he was able to channel the power of the Primal Stone he stole from Claudia, draw the appropriate rune, and speak the incantation flawlessly after seeing Claudia perform it once only a few hours earlier. No other character has shown this level of skill with magic, especially a spell that they have only seen once, but this wouldn't be the last time Callum would do this.

9 LUCKY: Almost Electrocuted Himself Trying To Save Rayla & Bait

Callum electrocuting a river monster

Very shortly after learning that he isn't as useless as he believed and was actually a capable mage, Callum decided to step up his game and attempt the one other spell he had seen Claudia use with the Sky Primal Stone, Fulminis. Unfortunately, while he could replicate the correct rune, he didn't know the incantation and couldn't properly execute the spell. With only half of the equation, Callum decided to use to against a sea monster that threatened to eat Rayla and Bait, nearly electrocuting himself as well as the people he was trying to save.

8 PRODIGY: Cast Mors Apertia Without Any Instruction

The void between life and death in The Dragon Prince

In Through The Moon, Rayla is rightfully sure that Viren is still alive and out in the world somewhere, despite Callum attempting to appease her worries as he didn't think there was any way he could have survived a fall from the top of the Storm Spire. To alleviate her worries, Callum organizes for Moonhenge to be rebuilt so he can open a portal to the void between life and death.

Callum manages to open a portal to the void between life and death without any prior instruction, having watched the ghostly figure of a Moonshadow elf cast the spell, using Historia Viventum to see how they did it. Even though he also needed the help of Moon Opals, this is still an impressive feat for someone who hasn't used much Moon magic.

7 LUCKY: Stopped An Avalanche Using Aspiro

After tracking up a snowy mountain, Bait accidentally sets off an avalanche by burping loudly, having drunk all of Rayla's moonberry juice earlier that morning. Thinking quickly, Callum uses Aspiro to stop the oncoming torrent of snow from crushing the group, though he is only barely able to keep it at bay as he runs out of breath before the avalanche stops. Although this is a fairly common trait for Callum, thinking quickly on his feet when it comes to anything magical, it was still incredibly lucky of him to even survive considering how powerful avalanches are.

6 PRODIGY: Performed Claudia's Kind Of Magic

Callum transforming the chain binding Pyrrah into snakes through Dark Magic

After destroying the Sky Primal Stone to help hatch Zym's egg, Callum felt lost without magic and wanted to make his own connection to the Sky Arcanum. Even after telling Claudia that he didn't want to learn "her kind of magic," he was backed into a corner after Claudia and Soren captured Pyrrah, being forced to use Dark Magic to free not only the dragon but save Rayla as well. It is established that Dark Magic functions very differently from Primal magic, so the fact that he is able to replicate a spell that he saw from a long distance away is more than a little impressive.

5 LUCKY: Rayla Finally Remembering The Incantation For Fulminis

Lujanne's leech zapped by Callum

Climbing to the peak of the Cursed Caldera to find a healer for Zym's egg, the group runs into several large monsters that they need to get past and Callum devises a plan involving the one spell he knows, Aspiro. During their conversation, Rayla finally realizes that Claudia didn't call Callum a fool, she was reciting the incantation for Fulminis, the lightning spell he had previously only known one half of the equation for. Without Rayla's help, Callum would likely be stuck with Aspiro for a very long time.

4 PRODIGY: Used Historia Viventum After Seeing It Used Once

Callum using HIstoria Viventum in the Storm Spire

Early in season two, Lujanne uses the Historia Viventum spell to show Callum what happened to the Moon Nexus after Xadia split from the human kingdoms, as, before this point, humans and Moonshadow elves freely interacted with Moonhenge and the void between life and death. Later, in season three, Callum was able to replicate this spell in the Storm Spire to see what happened to Rayla's parents.

This was the first time he had ever used Moon magic, and was able to do so without a Primal Stone or a connection to the Moon Arcanum, somehow instinctively knowing how to use Moon Opals to cast Moon magic and it seems he is just as good at Moon magic as he is at Sky magic.

3 LUCKY: Used Ventus Spiralis After Ezran Figured Out The Riddle Of The Storm Spire

Callum using sky magic to breath on the Storm Spire

On the trek up to the peak of the Storm Spire, the group finds themselves unable to breathe and Callum and Rayla come close to passing out. Ezran carries on ahead of them with Zym, coming into contact with Pyrrah on the way and discovering that runes they had passed earlier were a clue as to a spell they had to perform so they could breathe at the higher altitude. Just like when Callum was taught Fulminis after Rayla figures out the incantation herself, it is likely that Callum wouldn't have naturally come to the conclusion that he needed to cast a spell on the Storm Spire and was only saved by Ezran's intervention.

2 PRODIGY: Connected With The Sky Arcanum

Callum performing the Aspiro spell from The Dragon Prince

No matter how much luck or help Callum gets in his magical endeavors, it's hard to ignore the fact that not only was he able to successfully use magic on his very first attempt, but he is also supposedly the first human to connect with a source of Primal magic in the history of the world. Human's not being able to cast Primal magic was the sole reason behind the creation and use of Dark magic, as well as the human's exile from Xadia, so Callum has the potential to change the world with this revelation, though not necessarily for the better.

1 LUCKY: Successfully Used Manus Pluma Volantis To Save Rayla

Callum using Manus Pluma Volantis to save Rayla

After begging Ibis to teach him some Sky magic, he is instead shown the difficult spell that allows a Skywing elf to grow wings, should they not be one of the few who are born with them, and told that it is best if he leaves. Not content with this answer, Callum tries to replicate the Manus Pluma Volantis spell, but nothing happens. Only when Rayla falls from the Storm Spire with Viren and he leaps after her does he finally cast the spell successfully, saving both himself and Rayla from the fall in one of his luckiest moves in the series.
