Known as one of the East Coast's largest multigenre conventions, Dragon Con has been held each year on Labor Day weekend and doesn't plan to change that for 2020, in spite of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Founded in 1987, Dragon Con is held Atlanta, Georgia and features programs and events spanning across many different media and fandoms, including science fiction, comic books, fantasy and more. The organizing crew of Dragon Con shared its reasons for not moving or cancelling the event via an announcement released over a series of tweets.

Many things in the world are uncertain right now. One thing isn’t: We are planning to throw one sorely-needed, amazing celebration come Labor Day. We’re moving forward to keep Dragon Con 2020 on schedule. Currently, there are no plans to reschedule or cancel the event.

However we’re keeping in touch with the experts either way, and working with our venue partners to make sure everything and everyone stays safe, happy, and healthy. Rest assured if ever we feel that cannot be accomplished, we will do what is needed to protect our community.

Any changes to policy, procedure, date, or location will be shared as far and wide and as fast as our wings will carry them. With that, you will be seeing posts leading up to the event that you are accustomed to seeing this time of year including guest announcements, reminders of deadlines with our applications, and promotion of the events our amazing directors are working hard to plan for you all.

We hope these announcements can bring hope and excitement to you all during this difficult time and allow us to continue with planning an amazing Dragon Con.

Many conventions and other large events have either been cancelled or postponed over the last few months due to the pandemic, including Emerald City Comic Con, SXSW, Coachella and many more. To prevent spread of the highly contagious disease, experts have recommended that people avoid large crowds and stay home.

Dragon Con is planned to begin on Sept. 3 and end on on Sept. 7. Hotel information and ticket purchasing can be found on Dragon Con's website.
