The Dragon Ball series is easily one of the most recognizable franchises of all time, and it's easy to see why this is the case. Power fantasies were the rage back when Dragon Ball Z came out, and an entire generation was exposed to the incredible adventures of Goku and his friends as they lay waste to one threat after another. The characters of Dragon Ball Z have become a staple of pop culture, with recognizable names like Frieza, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and — obviously — Goku becoming fan favorites.

All these characters have achieved power in the form of over-the-top transformations... but there's another manner through which characters achieve higher power levels in the series — fusions. Fusions have helped our heroes and villains achieve new heights when it comes to power, allowing them to tackle their foes in the most entertaining manner possible. Here are 10 of the most epic and powerful fusions in the Dragon Ball series that warrant a further look.

10 Piccolo's Namekian Fusion

Namekian Fusion is a concept that has been forgotten for the most part, which absolutely sucks. This technique allowed Piccolo to achieve new heights of power and fight against enemies that posed a substantial threat before this power boost.

Perhaps the most iconic Namekian Fusion in this regard has to be Piccolo's fusion with Kami, which allowed him to fight Android 17 on equal ground and provide us with one of the most memorable encounters in the Android Saga.

9 Perfect Cell

The Androids might've been massive threats, but they paled in comparison to the sheer power of Cell. While Cell definitely started out as a relatively weak fighter with little to nothing going for him, the absorption of Android 17 and 18 allowed him to escalate his power levels to the point where he was genuinely on the brink of destroying the world as we know it.

The sheer power and evil nature of Cell forced Gohan to break past his own limits and unlock Super Saiyan 2, which made for one of the most memorable moments in the entirety of Dragon Ball Z.

8 Super Buu

The Majin Buu arc is considered by many to be the dark horse of Dragon Ball Z, with Toriyama's fatigue extremely palpable during this particular half of the story. However, it still gave us some excellent moments regardless, along with an intriguing antagonist in the form of Super Buu.

While Super Buu was somewhat outclassed by Gotenks and Ultimate Gohan, his power level surged the moment he managed to absorb both these fighters. Of course, he doesn't hold a candle to Kid Buu, but that goes without saying.

7 Gotenks

Goten and Trunks were interesting characters that weren't really doing anything substantial for the most part throughout Dragon Ball Z. All of this changed when the two kids were given the task of mastering the Fusion Dance to fight against Buu. The result was Gotenks — an incredible fighter who could give both their fathers a run for their money.

If he wasn't powerful enough as is, Gotenks also managed to transform all the way to Super Saiyan 3 — a move that made him even more powerful.

6 Baby Vegeta

Dragon Ball GT was quite divisive when it came out, with fans appreciating more Dragon Ball content while simultaneously complaining about the perceived lack of quality as compared to its predecessor. However, regardless of what fans thought about the series, one had to agree with the fact that GT definitely escalated the series in terms of power.

Baby, in particular, was an excellent antagonist. The idea of him being a Truffle who had a lifelong grudge against the Saiyans was intriguing enough as is, and his possession of Vegeta made the resulting character incredibly strong as well.

5 Super Android 17

Another excellent antagonist from Dragon Ball GT has to be Super Android 17. A fusion of Android 17 and Hell Fighter 17, the resultant fighter is quite powerful and gives the Z Fighters a run for their money.

His power escalates even further after absorbing Goku's 10X Kamehameha, which makes him even harder to beat. Thankfully, Goku was able to exploit Super 17's weakness — he can't defend himself while absorbing energy. Goku uses this opening to hit Super 17 with a Dragon Fist, followed by a Kamehameha.

4 Fused Zamasu

The Future Trunks arc from Dragon Ball arc raises the stakes higher than what had ever been done in the story before then. Zamasu and Goku Black are worthy adversaries on their own right, but their power truly reaches a whole new level after they fuse into one incredibly powerful entity.

Fused Zamasu is easily able to wipe the floor with his enemies with his immense power. It takes the efforts of another fused fighter on this list to get the better of him and give Future Trunks the opportunity to defeat Fused Zamasu once and for all.

3 Kefla

"Goku vs. Kefla! Super Saiyan Blue Beaten?"

The Saiyans of the Sixth Universe are no slouches when it comes to achieving high power levels, and Kefla showcases exactly why this is the case. A Potara Fusion of Caulifla and Kale, Kefla's power is so intense that Super Saiyan Blue Goku isn't able to hold a candle to her power.

It's only when Goku awakens his Ultra Instinct form that he's able to eliminate Kefla once and for all with what is undoubtedly one of the best Kamehamehas in the history of Dragon Ball.

2 Gogeta

There are two methods through which Goku and Vegeta have fused to completely decimate their opposition. The first one is enabled through the Fusion Dance, which brings forth Gogeta. While Gogeta has appeared once in the Dragon Ball Z films against Super Janemba, his first canon appearance comes in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

When both fighters figure out that they won't be able to take care of Gogeta as separate fighters, Vegeta and Goku decided to bring out the Fusion Dance and reveal Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta, who absolutely wipes the floor with Broly.

1 Vegito

The second form of fusion between Goku and Vegeta that is considered to be stronger than its counterpart is Vegito. This fusion is enabled through the Potara Earrings, allowing the fighters to fight on equal footing against Super Buu and Fused Zamasu.

The power that Vegito generates is second to none, easily making him the strongest fused fighter in the entire series by a country mile.
