More details about the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot video game have been revealed, including the addition of two more playable characters and in-continuity backstory introduced through the game.
Following comments by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama that the game would include canon backstories, the latest issue of Jump magazine in Japan confirmed that the game will include a female member of the Ginyu Force. Named Bonyu, the elite warrior within Frieza's army left the team because she did not like their eccentric poses before entering battle.
The game is confirmed to take place at least through the Cell Saga, making up the first two-thirds of the epic anime series. In addition to playing as Goku, the Cell Saga portions of the game will also have Gohan and Trunks as playable characters, with Gohan and Android 16 getting additional backstories within the classic storyline. Finally, the classic episode where Goku and Piccolo attend driving school will be included in the game's story.
First announced this past June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot allows players to immerse themselves in the events of the iconic anime series in a third-person action-RPG.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is developed and published by Bandai Namco. It is expected to be released some time in early 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
