The main characters of Dragon Ball's later parts are almost all members of the largely extinct Saiyan race. One of its surviving members is none other than Vegeta, the regal and arrogant prince of the Saiyans. His father, also named Vegeta, is somewhat known about throughout the series, but there's one member of Vegeta's family who remains shrouded in mystery.

There's next to nothing said about the Queen of the Saiyans, despite her being the species' royal matriarch and birthing two royal sons for King Vegeta. This speaks also to how rare Saiyan women are in general throughout Dragon Ball, as well as how much of a patriarchal warrior race they are. Here's a closer look at just who Vegeta's mother was and if we'll ever see more about her.

Who Is Vegeta's Mother, the Queen of the Saiyans?

Vegeta's father was King Vegeta III, making the Saiyan Prince the fourth to bear the royal title of the Saiyans' home planet. Unfortunately, his father's rule and royal marriage would be downplayed by the terrible events that befall the Saiyans as a whole during that time period. King Vegeta married his queen in Age 731, the same period in which the evil Frieza began his control over their planet and people.

Prince Vegeta, a.k.a. Vegeta IV was born in Age 732, with Tarble being born several years later. Despite these momentous events, the Royal Queen who birthed these boys is never even named, let alone seen in either the Dragon Ball manga or the anime. Vegeta has apparently had his cold, calculating and battle-driven demeanor since childhood, suggesting that anything in terms of a loving, doting mother was out of the question. She likely would have been fairly short, however, as Vegeta is quite small despite his father's domineering height of 6'5".

Why is Vegeta's Mother Never Mentioned?

As mentioned, the Saiyans were a proud warrior race of conquerors, known throughout the galaxy for their ruthlessness in battle. Likely for this reason, flashbacks concerning the species almost always show males, with the series having yet to show very many female full-blooded Saiyans. In fact, Gine, the wife of Bardock and mother of franchise hero Goku, was only recently introduced in Dragon Ball Super after years of not being named.

Still, it's odd that the Saiyan Queen of all people wouldn't break this mold and at least be shown in some capacity, such as after giving birth to Vegeta or Tarble. On the other hand, the latter of her sons was only introduced in 2008 in a movie special, with Super being where he's really come into prominence. Even King Vegeta himself was only expanded upon with flashbacks and such, so there's a precedence for the very royal family being glossed over in terms of importance. The tender relationship between Gine and Bardock, as well as their mutual affection for their children, was also a rarity in Saiyan society, so King Vegeta caring little for his own queen is plausible.

Dragon Ball Super has the chance to showcase more of these flashbacks or even alternate versions of similar characters through different Earths, finally revealing who Vegeta's mother was. This would fall in line with more of Bardock's character being expanded, and given that King Vegeta would have dealt with Frieza even more than Bardock did, perhaps his queen will finally show up through flashbacks involving the tyrant lizard alien.
