Two of the most popular anime of all time are Dragon Ball and Pokémon. They're so ingrained in today's pop culture that even people who know absolutely nothing about and/or don't watch anime are familiar with the two series, and may even be big fans.

Since we're living in the age of crossovers, why don't we take Dragon Ball's Goku and put him in Pokémon's world. Which of the nearly 1000 Pokémon would Goku have on his team? We've built a team that we felt Goku would probably have if he were a Pokémon trainer. Let's take a look!

6 Infernape

Infernape is fired up in the Pokemon Diamond & Pearl anime

Let's start off Goku's team with probably the most obvious choice: Infernape. Infernape is the final evolution of Chimchar, one of the starter Pokémon of the Sinnoh region. A Fire and Fighting type Pokémon which makes it a perfect match for Goku, as they both live for fighting. But it's not just Infernape's type that landed it on Goku's team.

Infernape is loosely based on Son Gokū, the "Monkey King" and main protagonist from Journey to the WestDragon Ball's Goku is also based on the same exact character and the original Dragon Ball series was loosely based on the story of Journey to the West as well. Plus, Infernape's fiery hairdo makes it look like a Super Saiyan, and it basically goes Super Saiyan with its ability Blaze. Like Goku, when Infernape's health drops, its attacks get stronger.

5 Lucario

The next Pokémon we put on Goku's team is another fighting-type, Lucario. Lucario is a dual fighting/steel type Pokémon that is often mistaken for a psychic-type because of the psychic-like blasts of aura it can fire, and it's because of those very aura blasts that we thought Lucario would be perfect for Goku's Pokémon team.

Lucario can read and manipulate aura, harnessing it into a ball to throw at opponents, similar to how Goku can read and manipulate ki, as well as being able to fire blasts of his ki. Using Lucario is probably the closest Goku could get to firing a Kamehameha in Pokémon's world. Even the way Lucario charges up its aura spheres has a striking similarity to how Goku charges up a Kamehameha blast. Also, in the Super Smash Bros series, Lucario can emit aura from its body in a way that looks almost exactly like Goku going Super Saiyan.

4 Urshifu

Our next pick is also one of the newest additions to the Pokémon franchise, Urshifu. Set to be released in The Isle of Armor, the upcoming DLC for Sword and Shield, not much is known yet about Urshifu, but from what we do know, we think it'd be a perfect addition to Goku's team.

Urshifu has two different forms depending how it's raised before evolving. Single Strike form makes Urshifu a fighting/dark type Pokémon and focuses on strong, single attacks while Rapid Strike form makes it a fighting/water type and focuses on quick, rapid-fire attacks. Either form would feel at home on Goku's team because both forms really complement Goku's love of martial arts.

3 Blaziken

Pokémon Blaziken

This one's probably another obvious choice but that's only because it makes so much sense to have Blaziken on Goku's team. Blaziken is a fire/fighting type Pokémon, just like Infernape, and that one-two punch of fiery fighters would be a force to be reckoned with. Blaziken's attacks focus mostly on kicks, and it may very well be the strongest fighting-type Pokémon that Goku would have on his team.

Debuting in Ruby and Sapphire, Blaziken has become one of the franchise's most popular Pokémon, and for good reason. Blaziken is just an all-around powerful Pokémon and would make a fine addition to Goku's team. Plus, the hair-like feathers that it has on its head vaguely resembles Goku's Super Saiyan 3 hair, insofar that it looks like long, flowing hair down its back, so Blazijen and Goku would be able to rock the same look.

2 Blastoise

Blastoise

Most people may have expected that if we put a Generation 1 starter Pokémon on Goku's team, it would have been Charizard, but we decided to go with Blastoise. Goku's got enough fire-type Pokémon on his team, let's switch it up a bit with a water-type. Blastoise has two pressurized water jets protruding from its shell that can fire water with tremendous force and speed. In a way, one could compare Blastoise's water attacks to Goku's ki blasts.

Switching it up is not the only reason we decided to add Blastoise to Goku's team. Goku was trained in martial arts in Master Roshi's Turtle School and while yes, it's a very simple connection, but it's certainly apt. Since Goku trained in the Turtle School since he was a child, we like to think that Goku's first Pokémon would have been Squirtle and he raised it all these years, still keeping it a valuable member of his team, because Goku never forgets his roots.

1 Rayquaza

Finally, rounding out Goku's Pokémon team is Rayquaza, a 3rd Generation dragon/flying type Legendary Pokémon. Rayquaza is one of the strongest Pokémon in the entire franchise, as it's able to Mega Evolve without holding a Mega Stone and has one of the highest attack powers of any Pokémon. A ridiculously powerful Pokémon would be perfect for a ridiculously powerful Saiyan.

We also couldn't help but notice that Rayquaza bears a resemblance to Dragon Ball's Shenron, as both are green serpentine dragons. What better way to round out Goku's Pokémon team than with Pokémon's answer to Dragon Ball's mystical dragon, Shenron? Rayquaza might not grant wishes, but it can control the weather, making it immensely powerful and surely likely to win a lot of Pokémon battles. Needless to say, Goku would be a tough Pokémon trainer to beat, and likely Goku's ace in the hole.
