Videl – the headstrong daughter of the infamous Mr. Satan as well as Gohan's wife and mother to their daughter, Pan – may be a supporting character who only appears later on in Dragon Ball, but she's one of the strongest Earthlings on the planet.

Tomboyish in nature, Videl learned much from her father and Gohan in the ways of martial arts & how to control her ki. She has proven her worth time & time again and hates to lose. Given her late appearance in Dragon Ball and her limited screen time, Videl isn't as well known as other characters.

9 One Of Few Earthlings Who Can Fly

Upon meeting him when they were in High School, Videl became obsessed with Gohan's powers. After tricking him into training her, Videl's powers were now unleashed. Even though she is an Earthling, she was able to learn how to control her ki & even achieve flight without advanced martial arts training.

8 Is Independent But Will Do Anything For Gohan

Videl trains alongside Gohan and Goten in Dragon Ball Z

After meeting Gohan, Videl was amazed at how he could fly and fight. Gohan helped her along with her training and in time, they developed feelings for one another. When Gohan heard that she had entered into the Tenkaichi Budokai, he gave her some good yet compromising advice to cut her hair. It was surprising that she went along with it the very next day.

7 Entered The 24th Tenkaichi Budokai As A Child

Videl

The date of the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai isn't clear in Dragon Ball, but Videl (naturally) would have been a child when she won the Junior Division – also the tournament's first ever. She then entered the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai after training with Gohan. She was pitted against Spopovich, a martial artist possessed by Babidi. Videl was bested by her opponent even though she would have clearly won if he wasn't under Babidi's spell.

With Videl being a normal Earthling, and in spite many years of intensive martial arts training under her belt, she was still no match for Spopovich in his possessed state.

6 Gohan And Videl Aren't Together In Trunk's Timeline

Gohan and Videl's Wedding

In Future Trunks' timeline, it appears that the star crossed lovers, Videl and Gohan, are not together. It seems that all other couples remain within this alternate timeline, but they do not - why is this? Perhaps there was an event or certain factors that happened between them that made them decide just to be friends or perhaps they were together but broke it off. Or even more so, some speculate that they never met at all. No one is sure, but in Future Trunks' timeline, Gohan became a school teacher, like his mother always wanted, since he didn't have to fight due to this peaceful timeline as the Androids didn't exist. It is not shown what Videl is up to, but for some reason, they are not wed and thus Pan ceases to exist as well.

5 Her Mother Is Never Seen

Hercule Satan is nonplussed in Dragon Ball Z

Videl is the only daughter of Mr. Satan and his wife, Miguel. Miguel never appears in the anime or manga at all and is only mentioned in interviews by Akira Toriyama.

Miguel passed away when Videl was young, presumably before the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai. Even though Videl was raised only by her father from a young age, she is as disciplined as she is is remarkable. Mr. Satan, with his busy schedule, would hardly have been home.

4 Can Use Super Saiyan Ki While Pregnant

Pan, Videl, and Gohan

In 'Battle of the Gods', Goku required the energy of five other Saiyans to achieve Super Saiyan God. Unfortunately, it seemed they were one Saiyan short. Little did they know, Videl was pregnant. This alone was enough for Videl to join the circle of Saiyans to help Goku in his evolution. During the transfer of energy to Goku, Videl's hair briefly turns gold Super Saiyan. This is residual energy from Pan, however, and Videl cannot actually turn Super Saiyan since she has no Saiyan blood within her.

3 No Last Name

Hercule Satan cowers in fear over fight in Dragon Ball

Being the daughter of a world-famous martial artist, Videl does not have a last name. Neither does her father, known as Mr. Satan. Satan's real name is Mark, but their surname is unknown. This is actually a consistent detail within the Dragon Ball universe, with Son Goku's family the only one in the main cast with a surname (Brief/Briefs isn't actually Bulma's family name, just her father's.) One would assume that once Videl married into the Son family, she would take on their name, and thus be Son Videl, but that has not been proven.

2 Turned Into Chi-Chi

Chi-Chi is angry.

Even with the lack of a motherly figure for most of her life, Videl eventually took a shine to her mother-in-law, Chi-Chi. So much so, that she begins to act like her in Dragon Ball GT and adopts many of her mannerisms. Videl's character totally changes and not for the better, especially for Gohan, since she went from the carefree tomboy always looking for a challenge that he fell in love with, to a fierce, take charge persona just like his mother.

1 Videl Is Stronger Than Mr. Satan

Mr. Satan

By the age of 11, Videl had already surpassed Mr. Satan tenfold. Videl idolized her father since birth and believed him to actually be the world's strongest. She did think it was dubious that her superstar father was able to defeat such a powerful enemy like Cell, however. Videl's sheer amount of strength, as well as her ability to control her ki after a short amount of training, is almost mind-boggling since she is a regular child born from two regular human parents.
