Out of all of the anime series that have gone on to resonate with audiences, there’s an extra level of magic that’s associated with the Dragon Ball series. Dragon Ball has a monumental presence in Japan, but it’s a breakthrough series that helped anime become a mainstream interest overseas. Dragon Ball has found ways to extend its story for over three decades, and it never stops being entertaining.

Dragon Ball is a lot of fun, but it’s also an anime where danger is plentiful and hiding behind every corner. It’s one thing to enjoy Goku’s heroic antics, but it’d be a lot more difficult to actually live in the same world as him.

10 The Earth Is Constantly In Danger

Frieza blows up Earth in Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball might have a lot of brave warriors who are ready to defend the planet, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Earth in Dragon Ball is also constantly in need of being defended. Dragon Ball has even examined the idea that having characters like Goku on Earth can actually be problematic. It’s safe to say that, at the end of the day, the Earth is going to be safe, but living in Dragon Ball means also getting comfortable with frequent alien invasions or obstacles like the Black Star Dragon Balls turning the planet into a time bomb.

9 Multiple Means Of Possession And Hypnosis Exist

Some villains are content with attacking the planet and eliminating any life that exists, but Dragon Ball also deals with some more invasive forms of domination. Villainous possession becomes surprisingly common in Dragon Ball, and there are multiple concoctions that can turn the unsuspecting public into obedient zombies. This happens on a widespread level with the Black Water Mist as well as Baby’s infection of Earth’s population. There is also Babidi and his Majin influence, which is only applied to select individuals but is still a vicious and thorough means of manipulation.

8 The Afterlife Is Full Of Its Own Hurdles

Death is a common event in Dragon Ball, which is tragic in and of itself, but, if that’s not enough, there are still many ways in which individuals can continue to suffer after their demise. Dragon Ball’s Other World consists of several tiers and one’s afterlife existence can become quite banal and void of personality if they’ve been bad enough of an individual.

Deceased villains like Frieza and Cell also seem to bully others in the afterlife and that there’s a lot of simmering aggression down there. It’s far from a peaceful eternity.

7 Dinosaurs And Dangerous Creatures Roam The Land

One of the most creative elements of Dragon Ball’s universe is that there’s an abundance of supernatural creatures that just casually roam nature. Some of these anthropomorphic creatures are endearing, but there are also legitimate threats out there like rabid dinosaurs. Dinosaurs aren’t much of a match for Dragon Ball’s heroes, but a standard human wouldn’t stand a chance. It’s a terrifying possibility that the public shouldn’t have to worry about.

6 Powerful Androids And Mad Scientists Are Prevalent

Dr. Gero looks over his failed Android creation in Dragon Ball Z

There are some absolutely brilliant minds that exist in Dragon Ball, but, unfortunately, not all of these individuals decide to use their intellect for altruistic purposes. Dragon Ball deals with several scientists who go mad with power and use their skills to build synthetic androids that have the power to take over society. The growing abilities of artificial intelligence in the real world have become a concern for some, but Dragon Ball takes this to a whole new level and a tech-based takeover feels like a very real possibility.

5 The Dragon Balls Generate A Lot Of Unneeded Collateral Damage

A lot of the time, cherished relics can become double-edged swords due to the dangerous attention that they draw to themselves. Accordingly, the Dragon Balls are technically a luxury and perk since they can grant wishes, but so many dangerous individuals are after them that they arguably cause more trouble than they're worth.

Tyrants have no issues with slaying innocents if it will get them the Dragon Balls. Someone can even use the Dragon Balls to wish to become the ruler of society. Wishes have the power to highlight this world’s fragility.

4 There Are Powerful Celestial Entities That Can Erase The Universe

Both Zenos erase existence in Dragon Ball Super

It’s one thing to have enemies that consciously invade Earth, but Dragon Ball demonstrates that its universe is so vast that there are many powerful deities that govern over it. At the top are individuals like Gods of Destruction or Zeno, the Omni-King. These are figures who can erase an entire universe without even breaking a sweat. They view existence on a massive scale and something like the erasure of a planet can just be the result of a grander act. No one on Earth knows about the Tournament of Power, yet their planet is almost erased because of it.

3 Time Travelers Can Appear And Attempt To Rewrite Reality

Anime Trunks Timeline

Dragon Ball hits some exaggerated heights, and it even gets into time travel as a solution to major problems. Granted, time travel isn’t a prevalent action or something that’s abused in Dragon Ball, but it’s still a possibility, one that can trigger severe consequences. Future Trunks uses time travel to fix the world, but individuals like Cell or Zamasu can visit a point in time for nefarious purposes. The public has no control over this, and it’s terrifying to think that existence could radically shift in the blink of an eye because of some reckless time travel action.

2 Civilians Often Become Power Sources For Villains

Ideally, any danger in Dragon Ball is dealt with away from populated areas so that there can be as few casualties as possible. This may be the norm, but it can’t always be guaranteed, and there are certain villains who actively require human sacrifices to grow stronger. The Androids and Cell use civilians as rudimentary sources of power. Buu takes this concept to another level and also readily antagonizes and feasts on the public to grow stronger. It’s not reassuring that Dragon Ball’s metropolitan areas can suddenly be taken over by a power-hungry monster.

1 Universe 7 Has A Target On Its Back

Anime Dragon Ball Tournament Of Power Universe 6 Fighters

Earth has its own variety of problems that the heroes need to contend with in Dragon Ball, but Dragon Ball Super shows that their entire universe doesn’t have the best reputation. Earth is just a tiny speck in Universe 7, but Goku’s careless actions around the Zenos during the Tournament of Power cause the rest of the universes in existence to resent everything that Universe 7 represents. It’s unlikely that these other universes will victimize Earth to vent their frustrations, but it’s still a possibility. It’s not a good thing that Universe 7 is the black sheep among other universes.
