Dragon Ball may seem like a series that many fans watch and read simply for the awesome battles and signature moves --but honestly, it's much more than that. As the case goes with many shonen, one of the draws to following this journey is for the great characters viewers grow up with.
One thing that spawns from these groups of characters in shonen series is, of course, romantic couples -- something that Dragon Ball has no shortage of. This list will be looking at those couples that fans wanted (and still want) as well as couples that got together without anyone expecting them to.
10 WANTED: GOKU AND BULMA
Goku and Bulma are the two characters that started the journey of Dragon Ball together. This fateful duo kicked off the series with the first search for the Dragon Balls, and on this journey, they grew up together. Goku and Bulma became best friends, always having each other's backs and cheering one another on.
While the two became best friends, fans wanted more for the longest time, but alas, that never came to be. Many fans still think that an actual intimate relationship between Goku and Bulma would have been better than what the series actually gave them.
9 DIDN'T SEE COMING: GOKU AND CHI-CHI
With so many people thinking that Goku and Bulma were going to end up becoming a thing, the radar wasn't even on Chi-Chi. This actually made it all the more surprising and charming when she asked Goku to promise to marry her in their childhood. Of course Goku accepted, even though he had no clue what a marriage was.
This couple may have been one that fans didn't see coming, but it definitely has stood the test of time. Chi-Chi has definitely proven that she is the perfect woman for Goku. Someone has to keep that loose cannon in line.
8 WANTED: GOHAN AND VIDEL
The relationship between Gohan and Videl is one of the canon pairings that fans actually shipped even before they officially got together. The interactions between these two begged for more of a relationship to blossom, and watching Gohan break through Videl's rough exterior to her softer side had everyone falling for the duo.
Thankfully Akira Toriyama granted everyone's wishes and had the two actually start dating after a bit. This is another couple that has stood the test of time, as the two are married in the current series -- they even have a kid together!
7 DIDN'T SEE COMING: KRILLIN AND 18
This couple is one that absolutely no one saw coming. In fact, many thought that this was one of the most random romances in the series' history. It all started with Android 18's random kiss for Krillin after she and her brother completely decimated his closest friends, an action that left viewers' mouths on the floor.
This random kiss ended up blossoming into something more, as Krillin fell head over heels for the once heartless android. After a few amazing acts of kindness, she turned around and reciprocated his feelings.
6 WANTED: TIEN AND LAUNCH
During Dragon Ball couples were coming in droves, with just about every main human character ending up with a significant other as the series progressed. One of the couples that fans were dying for is the duo of the martial artist Tien and Launch the rowdy bandit.
Launch's feelings for Tien were constantly sprinkled throughout the series once she was introduced to him, and finally clicked when she ended up cooking for him. Sadly this couple isn't like the rest, as after they got together Toriyama forgot about Launch, basically erasing her from the series.
5 DIDN'T SEE COMING: VEGETA AND BULMA
Funny how so many of the biggest official pairs are the ones that no one saw coming, right? Vegeta and Bulma were one of the biggest examples of this phenomenon. After Bulma broke up with Yamcha no one expected her to fall in love with the Saiyan Prince, yet here they are.
The seeds were planted once Vegeta came to stay with Bulma, and once it was revealed that they become a thing by Future Trunks to Goku, Goku's reaction says it all. He literally represents all the fans witnessing that moment.
4 WANTED: TRUNKS AND MAI
While no one originally thought Trunks and Mai would be a thing due to the huge age difference and the two characters literally never interacting with each other, but when Dragon Ball Super came around things changed big time.
Once Trunks saw her it was love at first sight, and fans were all over the ship instantly. Thankfully the two are confirmed to get together by Future Trunks who is currently dating Mai in his timeline.
3 DIDN'T SEE COMING: RADITZ AND PRINCESS SNAKE
One couple from the series that came completely from left field is that of Goku's brother Raditz and Princess Snake of Snakeway. While this couple wasn't confirmed in the anime or manga, it was teased that the two had a thing in the game Dragon Ball Z: The Distant Legend of Goku.
The weird thing is that this insinuates Raditz was somehow allowed on Snakeway despite the character having an evil past.
2 WANTED: BROLY AND CHEELAI
Broly and Cheelai is likely the most popular Dragon Ball ship right now. The two have shared so many moments in the new Dragon Ball film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, that fans instantly fell in love with the thought of their friendship becoming something more.
Hopefully, things actually do evolve into something more between the two -- because they are adorable together.
1 DIDN'T SEE COMING: TARBLE AND GURE
No one saw a couple that looks anything like this being together. Heck, no fan even saw Vegeta having a little brother coming, so why exactly would anyone predict the gag of his brother marrying this odd-looking alien?
That's not to say that Tarble and Gure are a bad couple. Whatever makes the guy happy, right?
