There are a lot of overpowered characters in the Dragon Ball series. Planet-busting aliens, galaxy-destroying Gods of Destruction, and universe-shaking Angels are just a taste of the new plateaus of power that have entered the franchise. However, above all of these dangerous deities is Zeno, an individual who could destroy the rest of these powerhouses all at once. Zeno is basically the god of the Dragon Ball multiverse, the Omni-King, and the supreme ruler of everything that ever was, is, or will be.

This extreme power makes Zeno a highly-feared Dragon Ball character. But behind this destructive energy is the disposition of a sweet child. Zeno is a dangerous dichotomy that many people would love to better understand, but most face their doom before they ever really come to understand him.

Updated on September 13, 2022 by Daniel Kurland: One of the ongoing highlights in Dragon Ball is how the boundaries of the franchise’s universe continue to expand in drastic ways. Audiences have come to meet and respect various celestial deities like King Kai, Supreme Kai, Old Kai, and beyond, but Super has pushed these figureheads to new heights through the advent of a multiverse. Zeno, the Omni-King, is the revered figure who watches over all of existence. The tiny guy may not look like much, but there’s a lot to Zeno that routinely gets overlooked in favor of his more obvious qualities.

15 Zeno Is At Least 8.5 Million Years Old

Zeno errantly considers universe erasure in Dragon Ball

Age is a fickle thing in the Dragon Ball universe, especially when characters spend stretches of time in the afterlife or train in environments where time passes at a different rate than normal. That being said, Zeno’s age puts every other character to shame.

Some sly dialogue near commencement of the Tournament of Power indicates that Zeno has ruled as the Omni-King for 8.5 million years. This means that Zeno is at least 8.5 million years old. It’s unclear if he started his existence as Omni-King or lived a certain span of time before being appointed to this position.

14 Zeno Became Friends With His Future Timeline Counterpart

Zeno meets his future counterpart in Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball is complicated enough with alternate universes and resurrection in the mix without also having to worry about time travel. Dragon Ball actually handles its time travel and future world in a smart and sophisticated manner. Future Trunks is a key figure in Dragon Ball’s trips to the future, and in Dragon Ball Super these antics result in the Future Timeline’s Zeno meeting the prime version.

Zeno is a wild card when it comes to who he likes and how he’ll respond, but he takes a real shine to himself. The two Zenos become a dangerous duo, especially in regard to what keeps them entertained.

13 The Grand Priest Is Zeno's Guardian Figure

Grand Priest acts humble in Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super introduces Goku and company to Gods of Destruction and Angels as the new normal when it comes to top-tier guardians. But it turns out that these titans are just the tip of the iceberg. Zeno the Omni-King sits above all, but not far below him is the Grand Priest.

This calm and cryptic deity is said to be the father of all 13 Angels, but he also serves as Zeno’s guardian and caretaker. Zeno’s child-like innocence is offset by the Grand Priest’s serious demeanor. He’s likely there to keep Zeno on track during his more distracted moments.

12 Zeno Gives Out Godly Favors To His Friends

Zeno gifts Goku a Get Out Of Jail Free Button in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno is so powerful that he can wipe out entire universes in the blink of an eye. Understandably, this causes most individuals to be terrified to approach Zeno since the slightest gesture could inadvertently set him off and result in their erasure. The ever-oblivious Goku exhibits zero tact around Zeno, which leaves Beerus mortified, but this earnest behavior makes a real impression on Zeno.

Zeno enjoys his “playtime” with Goku and rewards him with a button that will summon his presence if he’s ever needed. This perk becomes the universe’s salvation once the evil of Infinite Zamasu begins to spread and infect reality.

11 Zeno Is Adept With His Own Godly Technology

Zeno messes around with his GodPad device in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno possesses powers that defy comprehension, but he also seems to be a slave to the screen like so many mere mortals. Some of the more playful moments with Zeno illustrate how he gets glued to his GodPad–a celestial equivalent to the iPad.

Zeno makes heavy use of this custom technology during the Tournament of Power, but his tech skills also return in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. In this promotional series, Zeno develops drone-like Zeno Orbs, which he sends out to observe battles, but which can also explode and injure targets.

10 Zeno's Name Actually Has A Very Important Meaning

Spectators cower in Zeno's wake at the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super

Any Dragon Ball newcomer can get a modest idea of the incredible power that Zeno possesses merely from his name alone. The name Zeno is very similar to the Japanese word "Zenno" which literally translates to mean "Almighty."

Dragon Ball has a rich history of creative naming conventions. Some names come in the form of puns, while others are meant to invoke intimidating power. Zeno's name helps signal to the audience that this isn't just some random Dragon Ball character, but that he's someone who commands greatness. Zeno quickly proves that he towers above all, but his name makes sure that this power doesn't get lost in translation.

9 Zeno Is Really Just A Crucial Celestial Figurehead

Grand Priest watches over the two Zeno in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno is burdened with some of the greatest responsibilities in all of existence. One might think that a responsible and dedicated individual is the best one to fill this position, yet Zeno the Omni-King is frequently bored with his duties and looking for quick-fix distractions.

This cavalier attitude pushes Zeno to delegate all his duties to his Grand Priest, which triggers a chain reaction of responsibilities across all deities from Angels, to Gods of Destruction, and beyond. Zeno's masterclass delegation skills get others to worry about the universe's burdens while he can slack off and relax.

8 Not Even The Mighty One-Punch Man Can Defeat Zeno

Zeno destroys Infinite Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super

Shonen anime love to operate in extremes and Dragon Ball and its growing power creep is no exception. One-Punch Man is a fairly recent anime phenomenon that playfully subverts shonen stereotypes with a protagonist that can defeat any opponent with a single punch. One-Punch Man's Saitama has accrued a legendary reputation since the start of his series. However, he's still someone who's nowhere close to Zeno's strength. After all, this is someone who can wipe out multiple universes at once without breaking a sweat.

Saitama wipes out galactic threats with a single blow, but the sad truth of the matter is that no amount of strength will ever be enough to overwhelm Zeno. This is someone who can erase everything simply by willing it to be so. There is no single entity in all of anime who is more powerful than Zeno.

7 Zeno Is Much Smarter Than He Looks

Zeno looks on happily at his audience in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno is often depicted as a childish, immature brat who is liable to wipe out a universe if he gets upset. However, later events highlight how despite his childish behavior, Zeno has a strong sense of right and wrong. The whole impetus behind the Tournament of Power's creation is even just a complicated way for Zeno to test the morals of the multiverse.

Zeno's ultimate wish is that whoever wins the Tournament of Power will decide to selflessly use their reward to revive the rest of the multiverse's fallen fighters. However, this chivalrous deflection of power is hardly a guarantee. Zeno has a dangerous contingency plan in place where a selfish Tournament of Power would have to face the wrath of Zeno cleaning house and erasing the entire multiverse as punishment.

6 Zeno Is Not A Particularly Skilled Fighter

Goku punches Zeno in the face in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno might be Dragon Ball's only significant character who is not a fighter of any kind and exhibits zero interest or experience in martial arts training. Zeno possesses immense destructive powers, but he's unable to follow Dypso's speedy attacks. Furthermore, he views the Tournament of Power as a means of entertainment and not a system to find himself a worthy challenge in battle.

In the end, it's slightly ironic that such deadly competitors from across the multiverse are held hostage by someone who can't even beat them in a physical fight. This humility is an important reminder to Dragon Ball's characters that there's a lot more to value than pure power alone.

5 Even Zeno Has Limits

Zeno has overwhelming power and invokes fear in everyone that he encounters, regardless of whether they're a God of Destruction or an Angel. One might think that such authority can run rampant with no limitations, but it turns out that there are even things that are beyond Zeno's skillset.

A unique situation occurs following Zeno erases Zamasu and his future timeline which leaves Zeno stranded in a temporary void. Rather than recreate this missing multiverse, Zeno calmly waits in limbo until Goku summons him to the present. It's possible that Zeno didn't reform a reality to exist in because he was lazy and didn't feel like it, but it also just might be something that's beyond his abilities.

4 Zeno Has Not Necessarily Always Been The Omni-King

Zeno playfully gets dragged by Goku in Dragon Ball Super

A lot of Zeno's history remains a mystery and is left up to the audience's imagination. However, a fascinating detail gets revealed around the genesis of the Tournament of Power. The Grand Priest uses some fancy language to indicate that Zeno's leadership as the Omni-King has lasted for 8.5 million years. This is certainly impressive, but it opens up Zeno's past to some even bigger questions.

The vague language that the Grand Priest uses indicates Zeno's presumed age, but not if he's been the only Omni-King in existence or how long the position is normally held. Another Omni-King might have ruled for 8.5 million years before Zeno took over the title. Alternatively, Zeno might have been brought into reality already appointed to this role of greatness. In this sense, Omni-King may not be a position that rotates between deities but rather a role that's synonymous with Zeno.

3 Zeno Possesses The Highest Kill Count In Dragon Ball

Zeno duo are shocked at results in Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super

There are many Dragon Ball characters who have caused unprecedented destruction and claimed countless lives. Frieza has conquered planets and killed millions, including entire species in one fell swoop. Beerus has decimated civilizations simply because they displeased him. However, all of these reckless acts of destruction are still nowhere close to Zeno's grand total. After all, Zeno literally erased all of reality when he stopped Zamasu in the Future Timeline.

Most Dragon Ball tyrants would be content with a kill count in the millions or billions, but Zeno is operating on a whole other level. It's pointless to even keep track of a total with Zeno since his casualties consume all. It'd be easier to try counting how many realities he's ended.

2 Zeno Is Not Actually The Most Powerful Being In Existence

Both Zenos erase existence in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno's countless powers and accomplishments have been chronicled in great detail. After all of this, it's natural to assume that Omni-King Zeno is Dragon Ball's heaviest hitter. There's actually one self-aware individual who tops Zeno in power even though he's unlikely to ever show up for a significant battle. This honor goes to the Tori-Bot, Akira Toriyama's strange in-universe representation of himself.

The Tori-Bot is admittedly used as a gag character, but he's still officially the strongest character in Dragon Ball. The Tori-Bot wields the infinite power of creation in a meta sense since he can literally erase beings and then decide to never draw them again. At the end of the day, Zeno is simply a fictional character, but the Tori-Bot is the be-all-end-all of the fictional multiverses that he inhabits.

1 Zeno Is The Loneliest God

Zeno cries over fallen Goku in Dragon Ball Super

Zeno commands constant fear and respect from all that he encounters, but this isn't exactly the best recipe to make friends and be popular. The biggest reason that Zeno becomes so enamored with Goku is that he's the one person who treats him like a regular person and not the God-King of Everything.

Zeno lives a very lonely life and yearns for companionship and entertainment. Most people don't view Zeno as deserving of pity, but it's still tragic that he makes the multiverse occasionally jump through such elaborate hoops simply to keep him company. It's entirely possible that some of the biggest events in Dragon Ball Super wouldn't have come to pass if Zeno just has a strong group of friends by his side.
