Whis is the Angel of Universe 7's God of Destruction, Beerus, in Dragon Ball Super. He is also a skilled fighter and one of the most powerful in the entire series. Having taught Beerus, along with the likes of Goku and Vegeta, it is easy to see that Whis is monstrous in terms of strength himself.

Although Whis' grand powers aren't a secret to the fans, there are lots of things about him that are kept well under wraps. As the series continues, we'll be treated with more revelations about him. Here are 10 little known facts about Universe 7's Whis.

10 His Family

The Grand Priest watches over his subjects in Dragon Ball Super

Whis belongs to the Angel race, meaning he is a child of the Grand Priest, just like all the other Angels in the series that we've seen so far. Although the exact number of his siblings isn't known, so far, we know that he has at least twelve siblings.

The latest of these to be introduced to us was Merus, who was training to be an Angel but also worked at the Galactic Patrol. Other than them, there are likely other members of this family that we haven't seen yet.

9 His Fears

Whis appears to be a rather carefree person, as seen throughout the run of Dragon Ball Super. Where Beerus tends to get angry due to his short-tempered nature, Whis usually remains calm because the scope of most situations is within his grasp.

However, he does have his own fears, one of them being the Omni King. Upon hearing that he intended to meet with Goku, Whis became extremely unsettled, showing us that he isn't entirely fearless after all.

8 The Roshi Parallels

Like Roshi, Whis has served as a teacher to Goku, helping him get stronger to the point where he can challenge and defeat even stronger foes. Although it matters little to Whis, he does help Goku anyway, primarily because of the food he gets to eat on Earth.

According to Whis, the food on Earth is the only reason why he goes out of his way to meddle in the affairs sometimes. This is similar to Master Roshi, who only trained others when giving some form of inappropriate material. In the case of Whis, however, it is something that's much more sensible to ask as payment for training.

7 Bound To The Laws

Whis is often seen trying to stay away from everything that usually goes on in Universe 7. This is actually because he, like all other Angels, is bound by a code that doesn't allow them to interfere with anything that happens in the universe.

However, that's not to say that Whis never interferes in the events. Over the course of arcs, we've seen Whis get concerned with the safety of Universe 7 and extending a helping hand, although he claims to do it just because of the sweets.

6 What He Can't Do

Whis is a being even stronger than a Supreme Kai, or a God of Destruction. It goes without saying that he's among the strongest to have ever appeared in Dragon Ball and the fact that we still don't know what the extent of his powers are is very intriguing, to say the least.

With that being said, Whis doesn't excel at everything according to what we've been told. Beerus states that Whis is a terrible singer, which makes it one of his few known weaknesses so far. It's not something that makes him weaker in battle, but at least he does have some shortcomings.

5 Whis and Vados

Vados fakes some tears in Dragon Ball Super.

Vados is the elder sister of Whis and the attendant to Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6. She has played an important role in Whis' life, having trained him at one time and eventually stopping when Whis was strong enough.

The two share a very interesting dynamic which often revolves around making sure that Beerus and Champa don't quarrel too much since it could engulf the entire universe in the blink of an eye. For that, both Whis and Vados have played some role in protecting the universe.

4 His Speed

Whis is an incredibly fast being, known to be the fastest in the entire universe. This is presumably the same for all the other Angel attendants as well, however, a confirmation on that has never come our way.

Whis is known to be fast enough to move across Nebulas, and we got a glimpse of it when he went to retrieve lunch from the 65th Nebula and did so without any trouble whatsoever. In terms of combat speed, he is still extremely fast and the fact that he knows Ultra Instinct makes hitting him borderline impossible.

3 Standing Among The Angels

Whis is the strongest being in Universe 7, just as the other Angels are in the universes of the God of Destruction that they attend to. However, when compared to other Angels, Whis' standing isn't known.

According to Vados, she's stronger than Whis and she's more than confident in what she says. However, according to Whis, it has been an incredibly long time since they fought and Whis has gotten considerably stronger since then. The two have never fought on screen, however, and we'll likely never know who the stronger among them is.

2 Strength Compared To Beerus

Whis is inferior in strength to only his father and the Omni Kings, which puts him at least level with the other Angels until proven otherwise, and also makes him stronger than the God of Destruction of Universe 7, Beerus.

Although Beerus is quite powerful, Whis' strength is significantly greater in comparison as he's able to take him out with a single chop on the neck. This is quite similar to how Beerus first defeated Super Saiyan 3 Goku and painted the vast difference in levels between him and Goku.

1 The Name

Whis' name could possibly be a pun on 'virus' which sounds pretty similar to 'Whis' in Japanese. This is something that he likely shares with Beerus since his name also sounds quite similar.

However, Whis was actually named by Akira Toriyama, while Beerus was named by Yusuke Watanabe, the script-writer for Battle of Gods. Toriyama believed Beerus to be named after 'beer' and ended up naming Whis after 'whiskey'.
