After nearly one year of hiatus, Dragon Ball Super will return to publication this February, at least temporarily. The manga by the late Akira Toriyama and artist Toyotarou recently shared a preview for its highly anticipated return.

The official Dragon Ball website shared a brand-new look at the upcoming one-shot Dragon Ball Super story starring Goten and Trunks. Near the end of the latest Dragon Ball weekly news program (Feb. 10, 2025), a pencil draft of the new Dragon Ball Super chapter was shown. The Dragon Ball Super manga one-shot is scheduled to release on Feb. 20, 2025.

Dragon Ball Releases First-Look Image for Toyotarou's New Super Manga Story

The Dragon Ball Super sketch shows Goten and Trunk as high schoolers relaxing at home watching a TV program about Clean God, a fictitious superhero that "cleans up" crime. Currently, there are very few details regarding the upcoming one-shot story. However, it’s been confirmed that the new Dragon Ball Super chapter will focus on Goten and Trunks’ superhero obsession -- possibly mirroring Gohan’s transformation into the "Great Saiyaman" from Dragon Ball Z. In previous Dragon Ball Super chapters, Clean God is shown through advertisements, movies and video games.

The last story arc before the Dragon Ball Super manga went on hiatus was an adaptation of the 2022 Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. Toriyama, who passed away in March 2024, wrote the final chapter of the adaptation which, in hindsight, reads as a passing of the torch to Toyotarou as Toriyama bids farewell to Dragon Ball and its legion of fans. Toyotarou revealed that Toriyama advised him to redo the final page of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, "A Legacy Toward the Future," to have Piccolo wave goodbye to Pan’s teacher as he flew away with Goku and his friends. However, the final page portrays Piccolo as if he's waving goodbye to the readers. Knowing that Piccolo was Toriyama’s favorite Dragon Ball character makes the emotional moment all the more significant.

February will be an emotional month for Dragon Ball fans everywhere. Dragon Ball Daima, which began airing in October 2024, will conclude its run on Feb. 28, 2025. Intentional or not, the anime finale will air the day before Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024, at age 68. Daima was the last animated Dragon Ball project Toriyama had a significant hand in, contributing to the story and character designs. The recent "Climax Trailer" shows Dragon Ball Daima is planning to go out with a bang for Episode 20. However, the hype around Episode 18 is exceptionally high, as the upcoming episode hints at a new transformation for Goku.

New episodes of Dragon Ball Daima air every Friday on Crunchyroll. The English dub, starring Stephanie Nadolny as Goku (Mini), has begun premiering one new episode per week from Jan. 10. "Goku and company were living peaceful lives when they suddenly turned small due to a conspiracy!" the series’ official description reads. "When they discover that the reason for this may lie in a world known as the 'Demon Realm,' a mysterious young Majin named Glorio appears before them."
