About Dragon Ball: Super Hero

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero premiered in June 2022 and went on to earn over $86 million at the worldwide box office; while it did not earn as much as its predecessor, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the movie stands as one of the highest-grossing anime films in history alongside One Piece: Stampede and Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet. Instead of focusing on franchise protagonist Son Goku, the story focuses on the relationships Gohan has with his mentor Piccolo and his daughter Pan. It also sees the return of the villainous Red Ribbon Army and of one of Dragon Ball's most deadly and iconic antagonists.

The Dragon Ball Super manga is currently adapting the events of the movie. This decision has frustrated some readers because of the repetition; however, this move isn't without precedent. The manga adapted the events of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and Dragon Ball Super: Broly as well.

Dragon Ball's Cultural Impact

Akira Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga series appeared in Shuiesha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1984 until June 1995, producing 42 volumes worth of content. The narrative follows the battle-happy Goku from childhood to adulthood as he enthusiastically trains in martial arts and fights wacky but dangerous bad guys like the galactic tyrant Frieza and the sweets-obsessed Majin Buu. The series heavily inspired all members of the shōnen genre's Big Three and stands alongside Eiichiro Oda's One Piece, Tite Kubo's Bleach and Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto as one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 260 million copies sold across the globe.

VIZ Media distributes Toriyama's original series and the Dragon Ball Super manga in North America. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is available to rent through Amazon Prime Video.
