Dragon Ball Super functions as a satisfying extension to the iconic action series that’s full of powerful enemies, unbelievable transformations, and brilliant battles between good and evil.
The Dragon Ball characters are at peak strength in Super, but the anime is full of more inventive altercations where victory depends upon more than physical power. Some of the fights in Dragon Ball Super depict the franchise at its most creative and fearless.
10 Chiaotzu’s Acid Tongue Becomes The Key To Metalman Bikkura Quoitur’s Defeat
Dragon Ball's Tournament of Power introduces many eclectic races from across the multiverse. Moro's exhaustive jailbreak at Galactic Patrol headquarters results in many dangerous fugitives taking on Earth's heroes while Moro regains his youth and the full extent of his magical abilities. This puts Chiaotzu and Tien up against Bikkura Quoitur, a member of the Metalman race.
These mechanical threats are enormous and extremely heavy, but they also have surprisingly thin skin when it comes to insults. It's such a silly change of pace when Chiaotzu terrorizes this behemoth, but it's even funnier because Chiaotzu's trash talk could use a lot of work.
9 Android 18 Triumphs Over Magical Girl Stereotype Ribrianne
One of the most exciting parts of the Tournament of Power is that each competing universe feels like they're out of a totally different anime genre. This is most distinct is Universe 2, which embraces the aesthetics of magical girl anime. Ribrianne is Universe 2's ultimate fighter and an impressive fusion who looms over the battlefield.
Ribrianne's attacks, such as her big finisher, Max Love Cannon, feel very out of place in Dragon Ball. Androids 17 and 18 take on Ribrianne, but it's Android 18 who eliminates her. This is a moving defeat since it encapsulates that Android 18's love for Krillin triumphs over Universe 2's flashy presentation.
8 Goku’s Ultra Instinct Culminates In A Powerful Avatar That Takes Out Planet-Absorbed Moro
Planet-Eater Moro holds a vengeful grudge that's festered over millions of years, and he forces the heroes to master new tactics and transformations. Initially, Moro's quest for his youth and the techniques that he borrows bring Demon King Piccolo and Cell to mind. However, the final act of this fight is the biggest spectacle that's ever been seen in Dragon Ball.
Moro literally fuses with the planet and weaponizes it against Goku. To retaliate, Goku finally accesses perfected Ultra Instinct, which allows him to control an energy avatar against Planet-Absorbed Moro.
7 Piccolo Counters The Invisible Dangers Of Gamisalas In The Tournament Of Power
The Tournament of Power features non-stop combat, which is exciting but can become exhausting if there's not enough variety to the battles. The heroes from Universe 7 learn that Universe 4 is full of surprises when it comes to their fighters. A lot of mystery eliminations are courtesy of Gamisalas, an invisible warrior from Universe 4.
Piccolo's highly attuned Namekian senses give him a good read on Gamisalas. Piccolo and Gohan then launch a barrage of ki blasts that reveal Gamisalas' silhouette through displaced dust, which allows Piccolo to knock him out.
6 Gotenks Faces A Compromised Hero When The Fused Fighter Faces Copy-Vegeta
One of the sillier and less essential mini-arcs in Dragon Ball Super involves Planet Potaufeu and the evil Vegeta doppelgänger who's created in the process. This ultimately turns into a fight between Goku and Copy-Vegeta, but before Goku takes over, it's Gotenks who does a lot of the heavy lifting.
Gotenks' battles are few and far between, especially in Dragon Ball Super, so it's significant that he takes on Vegeta, of all people. It's an awkward battle as Gotenks tries to find a winning strategy, but it's all made worse by the fact that the real Vegeta is forced to casually watch these proceedings while he nurtures a restorative pacifier.
5 Goku Uses Instant Transmission To Hop Across The Universe To Counter Gas’ Aggression
The Dragon Ball Super manga has ventured far beyond the conclusion of its corresponding anime series, and the heroes are currently occupied with the unprecedented power of the Heeter Force’s Gas. Gas is a unique threat who’s acquired exceptional strength through both the Dragon Balls and a power inhibitor that restrains his aggression.
Gas makes heavy use of weapons and restraints that are made out of ki energy, which can either attack targets or confine them in place. This abnormality, combined with Goku’s strategy to abuse his Instant Transmission powers to teleport Gas across the galaxy, is easily one of the most unpredictable fights in the series.
4 Goku Reveals Blue Kaioken As A Crucial Time-Skip Tactic Against Hit
Dragon Ball Super finds a lot of success in their continued clashes between the strongest fighters from Universe 7 and their complementary dimension, Universe 6. Universe 6’s Hit has a revered reputation as the galaxy’s most feared assassin, and his cryptic Time-Skip technique temporarily stumps both Vegeta and Goku.
Hit’s sleek maneuvers are creative on their own, but this impressive opponent pushes Goku to combine two deadly abilities for the first time. Goku returns to his classic Kaio-Ken power boost ability and combines it with the added strength of Super Saiyan Blue. Blue Kaioken Goku is a creative fusion of Goku’s past and present, which helps him defeat Hit, but at a price.
3 Eternal Rivals Become Amazing Allies When Goku And Frieza Take On Jiren
Most of the Tournament of Power is spent with the fighters from Universe 7 completely dominating their competition. The one exception is Universe 11’s Jiren, a top member of the prestigious Pride Troopers, who becomes Goku’s primary rival in the tournament.
Jiren’s tremendous strength pushes Goku to tap into Ultra Instinct power for the first time, which is a pivotal sequence, but it's still a temperamental process. What’s even more exciting than Goku’s new transformation is that he and Frieza are able to truly work together as a team to take on Jiren. Frieza represented ultimate evil in Dragon Ball for so long that this surprising alliance isn’t lost on the audience.
2 Future Trunks And His Sword Of Hope Nearly Severs An Immortal Menace
The heroes in Dragon Ball Super are thrust into a genuine mystery when a nefarious Goku double begins to threaten the safety of the universe. This Goku Black scheme is merely one stage of the intricate plan that’s put into motion by Zamasu.
Zamasu nearly achieves his mission to wipe out all mortals, and it’s ultimately divine intervention from Omni-King Zeno that extinguishes this immortal threat. Before Zeno rights this wrong, Future Trunks proves himself against Fused Zamasu and unleashes his seismic Sword of Hope attack. The Sword of Hope doesn’t finish off Zamasu, but it’s another creative element in this atypical encounter.
1 Beerus Takes On Every God Of Destruction In A Brutal Battle Royale
Dragon Ball Super adds some considerable celestial deities into the mix with Gods of Destruction, Angels, and even greater figures. Beerus, the God of Destruction for Universe 7, is a considerable threat who’s never been able to showcase the full extent of his destructive powers.
Beerus’ strength trumps most of Universe 7, but a fascinating development takes place during the Tournament of Power. The Dragon Ball Super manga features a God of Destruction free-for-all when the universes’ leaders target Beerus for his universe’s insolence. These Gods of Destruction still restrain their abilities, but it’s frightening to consider the potential fallout of this clash.
