Dragon Ball Super has been off the air for some time now, but the manga is actually still running.  The Dragon Ball Super manga did its own version of the Tournament of Power, then went on to do an arc after that, focusing on the galactic Prisoner, Moro.  A deadly prisoner who had been in jail for millions of years, Moro would get free and go on to menace the world once again.

Goku and Vegeta both would have to learn all new techniques to stand a chance against Moro, and in the end, even that wasn't quite enough.  Dragon Ball lore was expanded on in ways it hasn't been since the Buu Saga, and hopefully, the next arc can stand up to it.

10 Goku Gained Access To Ultra Instinct

Manga Dragon Ball Super Autonomous Ultra Instinct Goku Versus Planet Moro

At the end of the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta went back to Earth, and Goku revealed he could no longer use Ultra Instinct. It was something he’d gone into to fight against Jiren, and bring him down to a level where they could eliminate him from the tournament, but it wasn’t something he could access again. But the manga’s Moro arc had Moro learn how to master the first stage of Ultra Instinct, making him powerful enough that no one would be able to beat him again. This is the first stage of the power of the gods.

9 Moro Introduced A Form Of Magic That Was Better Than Ki

Dragon Ball Super Manga Vegeta Versus Moro Attack

Though the Majin Buu arc introduced the concept of magic, it was Moro who made it truly fearsome. Babidi’s magic was simply being able to put the Majin tattoo onto people and his control of Majin Buu. Moro took all of this to a new level. When the character started out, he wasn’t in the same league as Goku or Vegeta, but after draining the energy of Planet Namek as a whole, he became stronger than either of them. It raises the question of what the next mage-type character will be capable of.

8 Bringing Back The Yardrat

yardrat

The Yardrat people were obscure Dragon Ball lore about where Goku got his Instant Transmission technique until this arc. Although the planet had never been shown, it was mentioned there were a ton of cool techniques there. No one even knew what they looked like, and Goku only learned the one technique there. But with this arc, Vegeta was forced to seek out the people of Yardrat to learn something that would aid him in his battle against Moro.

7 Introducing Merus & Explaining The History Of The Angels

Manga merus vs goku

Merus was a bit of a mystery at the beginning of the Moro arc. A member of the Galaxy Police, the character would’ve almost been just another alien introduced who had about the same level of importance as Jaco.

But then Merus revealed his true identity: he was an Angel in training. This helped readers to understand what the world of Angels was like—they’re not just forbidden from getting involved in combat, but if they do they find themselves completely erased from existence.

6 Made Goku & Vegeta A Member Of The Galactic Police

Manga Dragon Ball Super, Goku and Vegeta, Moro arc

Introduced to the series quite some time ago, the Galactic Police have been present in Dragon Ball Super the entire time the series has been around. But with the start of this arc, both Goku and Vegeta were invited to join the group to take on this dangerous Galactic Prisoner, Moro. This could have tons of potential directions in the future, or at least it could have if Goku hadn’t quit so he could fight Moro his own way at the end of the arc.

5 Vegeta Is Repentant For What Happened On Namek

Vegeta On Namek Repentant

Part of the reason Vegeta was able to beat Toppo was he was finally able to accept that he wasn’t willing to throw away a single part of who he was for a fight. Toppo threw away his desire to be a hero, while Vegeta wouldn’t throw away his family or his obligations, and that power pushed him to defeat Toppo. This was a massive change from the Buu Saga when he believed being a loving father and husband kept him from being the strongest. The Moro arc continues this, as Vegeta considers himself personally responsible for restoring New Namek after it’s destroyed.

4 Gave Vegeta The Instant Transmission

Manga Vegeta Using Instant Transmission, Dragon Ball Super

Fans had been wanting to see something like this for quite some time. People wanted to see the humans eventually learn Kaio-Ken, or one of the other Saiyans get the Mystic power-up that led to Ultimate Gohan. The Moro arc finally did something with that, as they let Vegeta travel to the planet Yardrat. There, the character was able to master a new technique, but he also learned another on top of that: Instant Transmission. He learned it well enough to do it exactly once, but without further training, he’ll never be able to do it again. Still, it was a great moment that deserves to be animated.

3 Made Humans Relevant Again

Earth’s Humans Against Moro’s Army

For a brief period of time, humans got to become relevant again in this arc. As Moro collected a group of prisoners and brought them with him to Earth. His goal was to let the prisoners roam free, but the Z-Fighters shut them down.

In a lot of arcs, the human Z-Fighters would be completely useless. In the manga, even the Tournament of Power didn’t have that many moments where the humans got to look cool. But this arc brought the humans a brief moment of prominence, with all of them working together to shut down all but the most powerful prisoners and Moro.

2 Brought Back The Old Kai

Grand Kai

A plot point people forgot about is that Uub not only exists but that there was a Kai inside of Majin Buu, which is a large part of the reason for his generally good mood. This arc saw that Kai appear twice, each time fighting to take down Moro, a threat they’d beaten once before in the past. In another timeline, Uub would eventually become Majuub because the two fused. But in this timeline, could that Kai awaken inside of Majin Buu for good?

1 Vegeta Got To Save The Day

Manga Dragon Ball Super Moro Magic Versus Vegeta

Vegeta didn’t get to win the entire fight, but he was pretty useful all around this time. Goku came to Earth with the ability to go into Ultra Instinct at will, but he hadn’t mastered it. Battling Moro, he was able to win for most of the fight until his power wore off. Vegeta was able to tip the scales by completely draining Moro of all the energy he had stolen and then beat Moro one on one in their fight with ease, something Vegeta fans had been waiting for since the start of the Android Saga.
