Rumors suggest that the Dragon Ball Super anime may soon return to TV.

According to Twitter user and reliable Dragon Ball leaker @DBSChronicles, Goku will soon return to the world of weekly broadcast TV with a new continuation of the Dragon Ball Super anime series. DBSChronicles states the new season will be set after the Universe Survival Saga that concluded the original 2015 anime series, though notably doesn't mention if the continuation will be a direct adaptation of the Galactic Prisoner Patrol saga (sometimes referred to as the Moro saga,) or the current Granolah the Survivor saga, which were published after the original Dragon Ball Super anime ended its broadcast run. The report states that the show will begin airing new episodes sometime in 2023.

The rumor also states that a new Dragon Ball movie is currently in pre-production, which echoes a statement recently made by series producer Akio Iyoku. The latest Dragon Ball Super movie, Super Hero, was in production for about five years, but according to the report, Toei Animation hopes to decrease the gap between new films in the series to about 2–3 years each. No details about the new movie's story were mentioned.

The source of the rumor, DBSChronicles, was the source of some of the earliest leaks about Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's biggest surprises, which ended up being true. While rumors about a continuation to the anime series have swirled for several years, Iyoku said at the beginning of the year that fans of the franchise would have something to look forward to besides the release of Super Hero, and it is possible that this new anime series is the exact project that he was teasing.

While the report offers a tantalizing look into the future of the series, fans outside of Japan are still waiting on Super Hero's international release. The new movie, which is the first feature in the franchise's history to be animated entirely using CG, centers on Gohan and Piccolo as the old master and protegé duo team up once again to do battle with the Red Ribbon Army's latest creations. The film will be released in the United States on Aug. 19 by Crunchyroll.

All of the previous Dragon Ball anime series, including the original Dragon Ball Super show, are now available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga that the anime is based off of is available in English from VIZ Media.
