WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 59, by Akira Toriyama, Toyotarou, Caleb Cook and Brandon Bovia, available now in English from Viz Media.

After arriving back on Earth in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 57, Goku set about taking down Moro's most powerful lieutenants without even accessing his Super Saiyan form. As the subsequent issue revealed, this was because Goku had mastered a form of Ultra Instinct, which allowed him to utterly destroy the once powerful Saganbo. Chapter 59 finally pits Goku against Moro -- who previously beat the Saiyan -- but there's a big question as to whether the hero's upgrade will be enough.

For much of the issue, Goku and Moro trade blows. At first, the Saiyan hero seems to have Moro on the ropes, due in large part to his newfound speed. However, Moro turns the tide of battle by using his magic against Goku. While the hero is able to shake the move off, the attack -- which restrains Goku's hands and feet -- definitely shows Moro's magic will be an equalizer in the battle. After Goku gets up, the two continue battling, and the hero is even able to negate Moro's energy absorption ability thanks to his speed.

Things take a turn for the worse, though, when Whis and Merus reveal Goku hasn't quite mastered Ultra Instinct. Instead, the hero has actually only learned Ultra Instinct Sign, which Whis describes "as the gateway to Ultra Instinct. But it isn't stable." Goku's form of Ultra Instinct, in fact, is quite taxing and requires the hero to manage his energy levels well. Moro, seeing the Saiyan's true intentions, recognizes Goku can't actually sustain the form for all that long. Moro has thus been stalling because he can't actually beat Goku at full power, but he can take him down once he's used up some of his energy. This prompts the Saiyan to abandon Merus' energy conservation plan and absolutely unleash on Moro.

Choosing not to follow Merus' advice could prove disastrous for Goku. While the hero is certainly formidable, so many sagas in the Dragon Ball franchise have seen Goku nearly undone by refusing to follow good advice. Moro is perhaps the deadliest enemy Goku has ever face, and the villain's energy absorption abilities mean that every mistake could potentially end their fight quickly. So Goku may have an edge right now, but that doesn't mean he'll have one forever. This failure might just open the door for Vegeta, who has been training on Planet Yardrat, to finally prove himself just as good as his rival and take down Moro once and for all.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 60 releases May 20.
