A familiar face transforms into a Super Saiyan God for the first time in the latest trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

The new trailer features the first look at Vegeta as the red-haired Super Saiyan God as his battle against the titular Dragon Ball villain intensifies. While the Saiyan warrior prince has been able to channel the powers of a Super Saiyan God into the iconic Super Saiyan Blue from since 2015's Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, the upcoming anime film marks his debut in the red-haired form.

The film marks the in-continuity arrival of Broly with Goku and Vegeta encountering the powerful Saiyan warrior sometime after the conclusion of Dragon Ball Super. Broly's debut also reveals untold elements of Saiyan history as Frieza finds himself roped into the epic showdown as well.

Broly had previously appeared 1993's Dragon Ball Z: Broly -- The Legendary Super Saiyan and its 1994 sequels, Dragon Ball Z: Broly -- Second Coming and Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly due to the character's overwhelming popularity. Despite this, along with countless video game appearances, none of the character's prior appearances were considered canon until next month's film which features Broly written by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama for the first time.

Directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, Dragon Ball Super: Broly hits theaters on December 14 in Japan and January 2019 in North America.
