WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which is currently out in Japan. The English dub of the movie will hit theaters in North America on January 16, 2019.

After first appearing in 1993's Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly is going to finally enter Dragon Ball canon with the upcoming film Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Although the character has proven controversial among fans, we think we know what's going to happen with him after his debut, and he might just end up becoming a very important part of Dragon Ball Super going forward.

Since the film is already out in Japan, we already know what will happen. However, if you're waiting for the dub, this article is going to contain some pretty massive spoilers for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, so stop here if you're adverse to those.

Firstly, the film is going to explore the intertwined backstories of Goku, Vegeta and Broly, making the titular Saiyan a much more complete character than he was in the original films. We also know that The Legendary Super Saiyan will survive the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and it sounds like he'll leave off on fairly friendly terms with Goku. Seeing as he's still alive and friendly with the anime's main hero, it's definitely possible that the character will return in the future.

There are a lot of ways Broly might play a role in the future of the franchise, especially considering that Beerus asked Freiza to destroy Planet Vegeta due to the former's dislike of King Vegeta. Is it possible that the Legendary Super Saiyan will face off against the God of Destruction? If so, who will win? Well, you'll just have to wait for another exciting episode if Dragon Ball Super to find that out.
