Dragon Ball Super started off on shaky footing with lackluster animation and retreaded story arcs that copied the movies,  but through time and grit it became awesome. The Goku Black arc had the return of Trunks and the Tournament of Power was an amazing tournament arc that made everyone lose their mind. Dragon Ball Super's biggest strength by far was developing pre-existing characters and creating new stories for them to have.

In this vein, Dragon Ball Super had so many great relationships that we fell in love with. Today we will be recounting on some stellar relationships in Dragon Ball Super and a few that are better left to the dust bin of history. So gather up the dragon balls and let's go ultra instinct.

9 Perfect Match: Gohan And Videl

One of the major strengths of Dragon Ball Super as a continuation of the series is how it expounds upon the cast and the relationships they have. At the end of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan and Videl were married, but we never got to see them together. Super gives us a close look at Videl and Gohan as they attempt to live a normal life and take care of their half-Saiyan daughter.

Some of the filler episodes show us moments where Gohan and Videls's relationship is shown as hard and difficult, but they try their best to make it work. They aren't the most perfect couple, but they show just how much they love each other in this battle-focused anime.

8 Nonsense Couple: Yamcha And Bulma

Bulma glaring angrily at Yamcha in Dragon Ball

Yamcha has never regained his importance in the series since the end of the original Dragon Ball anime and his relationship with Bulma is a perfect example of this. At the beginning of Dragon Ball, they were a cute couple who had great chemistry, but broke up for unknown reasons in Dragon Ball Z. After the Frieza Saga, Bulma married Vegeta and completely abandoned any hope that Yamcha would find love. That hasn't stopped Yamcha from being super desperate in Dragon Ball Super and making us wonder why Yamcha is even around anymore. Some romances are best left in the past.

7 Perfect Match: Cabba And Caulifla

Anime Cabba and Caulifla Cropped

The Saiyans from universe 6 were fan favorites from Dragon Ball Super and brought a lot to the series. Cabba was the nervous protege of Vegeta, and Caulifla was a spunky and powerful Saiyan. Even though the show never fully confirms their relationship, many fan communities have speculated on their possible relationship. They have plenty of moments on-screen where they are shown to care for each other and the seeds for a relationship are there. The strongest evidence being when Cabba tried to protect Caulifla during the Tournament of Power. This is one relationship we want to see more of in the coming years.

6 Nonsense Couple: Tien And Yurin

This is kind of cheating, but when Goku went to recruit Tien for the Tournament of Power we meet Yurin. Initially appearing as a minor antagonist, Yurin wanted to enact revenge on Tien and used witchcraft to take control of the Crane School. Through a fight with Master Roshi, Yurin then apologizes and becomes a student of Tien's dojo. Throughout this story we are given hints of a relationship between the two of them and it even shows Yurin serving drinks to Tien at the end of Dragon Ball Super.  This relationship spits in the face of Launch, who was Tien's initial love interest but was booted from the show for no apparent reason. Not to mention that their relationship is barely developed.

5 Perfect Match: Trunks And Mai

Seeing Trunks again in Dragon Ball Super was a great moment for fans, and seeing the relationship between him and Mai was a sight to behold. Future Mai is the head of the resistance against Goku Black and is one of Future Trunks' closest allies.

During the course of the Goku Black arc, we get to see how much Future Mai and Future Trunks care for each other, and how far Future Trunks is willing to go to protect the earth. Sincere moments where they share a kiss and travel to a new timeline together cement their status as one of the best couples in all of Dragon Ball.

4 Perfect Match: Krillin And Android 18

What started out as an unlikely couple has risen to become one of the Dragon Ball community's favorite couples. During the Cell Saga, Krillin saved Android 18 and even wished for her bomb to be removed and this started a relationship between the two and would end up with them getting married and having a child. During Dragon Ball Super, Krillin and Android 18 were suffering economically, but that didn't stop them from loving each other. A highlight of their relationship was when they fought side by side in the Tournament of Power and were absolutely adorable. Krillin and Android are absolutely one of the most bad-ass couples in Dragon Ball Super.

3 Nonsense Couple: Goku And Bulma

A common relationship that a lot of fans wanted from Dragon Ball was Goku and Bulma. Originating from the early chapters of Dragon Ball, Goku and Bulma were good friends and went on many adventures together. According to a comment by Akira Toriyama it was revealed that editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, wanted Bulma and Goku to end up together. It's quite clear that this never happened, but certain scenes in Super have made fans speculate if this could happen. The main problem with this relationship, of course, is that it deletes all of the character development that Vegeta and Bulma have earned in Dragon Ball Super.

2 Perfect Match: Vegeta And Bulma

Vegeta and Bulma in Dragon Ball Super is one of the most precious and wholesome relationships in the entirety of anime. They originally got married after the Frieza Saga and had a baby named Trunks. Throughout the series, we see that Vegeta unconditionally loves his family and would even sacrifice his pride as a Saiyan to save his family.

Key examples of this being when Trunks was killed by Cell and when Vegeta danced for Beerus. In Dragon Ball Super we get to see Vegeta hang out with his family and take their feelings into consideration. Bulma is no slouch either, and throughout Super, she shares plenty of intimate moments with the Prince of Saiyans. This makes this relationship the best in all of Dragon Ball Super.

1 Nonsense Couple: Kale And Caulifla

Kale and Caulifa in Dragon Ball.

The relationship between Kale and Caulifla is a weird one and has the anime community divided by their status. In universe, Caulifla calls Kale her sworn sister and they are treated as really good friends and companions. On the other hand, several scenes that focus on Kale show that they could be a possible lesbian couple. The reason this relationship doesn't work is that it conflicts with the more solid relationship between Caulifla and Cabba, and that the majority of the relationship is endorsed by the fans and not the creator. Many fans would be up for more development and confirmation on their relationship, but as far as Dragon Ball Super is concerned this relationship makes no sense.
