While fans will always celebrate Saiyans like Gohan, Vegeta, and Goku for their contributions in defending Earth, several other Saiyans have played an important role in Dragon Ball's story as well. Bardock, the father of Goku, not only gave birth to one of the strongest Saiyan warriors that ever lived, but he also deserves all the credit for sending Goku to Earth minutes before Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta. Bardock's gone on to become one of the most popular Saiyan warriors in the series, not only appearing in countless videogames but also going on to have two specials detailing his exploits before and after Planet Vegeta's destruction.

In Dragon Ball games like Super Dragon Ball Heroes and Xenoverse 2, he managed to excel all the way to Super Saiyan 3. In a special what-if scenario entitled Episode of Bardock, he ended up becoming the first Super Saiyan. Because he's appeared in so much non-canon material outside of the main series, it can be not easy to get a solid grasp of his actual powerーhowever. Fans can gauge who is stronger than him by pitting him against other characters.

10 Raditz

Raditz Kicking Goku and Piccolo - Dragon Ball Z

Like any father, Bardock wanted the best for his sons. He seemed proud to know this his eldest son had been chosen to go on a mission alongside Vegeta, who definitely didn't have Saiyan riffraff hanging around him. Bardock might have been strong enough to lead his own fighting force, but apparently, he wasn't strong enough to accompany Vegeta and Nappa on missions.

After Planet Vegeta's destruction, Raditz only got stronger. Despite being regarded as a mid-class Saiyan warrior, he gave Piccolo and Goku the most challenging fight of their lives up until that point.

9 Nappa

Nappa from Dragon Ball Z at full power

There's no question that Nappa was stronger than Bardock. Sure, if he went up against Frieza's Supernova, he'd easily be brushed aside as well, but his close association with Vegeta showed that he was no pushover.

Nappa had the ability to wipe entire cities out with the flick of his wrist. Bardock's Final Spirit Cannon just doesn't come close to that.

8 King Vegeta

King Vegeta in Dragon Ball

King Vegeta was able to hold his position for so long unchallenged because he was the strongest Saiyan at the time of his rule, which is why his son already possessed an insane power level at such a young age. As the ruler of the Saiyans, there's no question that King Vegeta would wipe the floor with Bardock at the time of his death.

Unfortunately, in Bardock - The Father of Goku, both Saiyans went down easily when they were up against Frieza's First Form, which speaks more to how superior he was to the Saiyans rather than their own strength relative to one another.

7 Cabba

Anime Cabba and Caulifla Cropped

Even before Cabba knew how to transform into a Super Saiyan, he was already leagues above Bardock. When he and Vegeta first fought in the Tournament of Destroyers, Vegeta remarked that he and Cabba were evenly matched in their base forms. At that point in the story, Vegeta's base form was so strong that he was able to obliterate someone as strong as Captain Ginyu with just one attack, and could even go hand-to-hand with Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks without the need to transform (as shown when Copy Vegeta went up against the young fused warrior).

This not only shed some more light on the higher potential present in the Saiyans of Universe 6, but it also explained why it was so easy for Cabba to transform into a Super Saiyan when someone like Bardock was unable to draw on this power at the moment he needed it most.

6 Caulifla

Caulifla as a Super Saiyan during the Tournament of Power

Since Cabba was stronger than Bardock, there's no question that Caulifla is as well. In the span of a few minutes, she progressed from Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan 2, showing great potential to adapt to situations on the fly quickly. During the Tournament of Power, her inexperience became her worst enemy; despite having the raw strength, Goku, who was much wiser and seasoned as a martial artist, maintained a steady upper hand until Kale jumped in to provide her with assistance.

If she and Bardock ever sparred, her unpredictable, reckless style of fighting would overwhelm him, and he'd be left with no choice but to bust out his Final Spirit Cannon. Unfortunately for him, Caulifla would be able to deflect his strongest move without even trying.

5 Goten/Trunks

Goten and Trunks become Super Saiyans in Dragon Ball Z.

Goten and Trunks are rarely seen tackling an enemy independently, choosing to fuse into Gotenks whenever they're presented with a challenge. But whether it's Goten, Trunks, or Gotenks doing the fighting, Bardock would lose every single time.

Goten and Trunks became the youngest Super Saiyans in history. While their Super Saiyan transformations wouldn't hold a candle to Goku's, Vegeta's, or even Cabba's, they'd be more than a match for a low-class Saiyan warrior who couldn't even defeat Frieza at his weakest.

4 Gohan

Gohan Punches Frieza in dragon ball z

Gohan always possessed a latent, hidden power that was teased throughout Dragon Ball Z, but the moment he would've surpassed Bardock in terms of power most likely would've occurred sometime during the Namek Saga.

While Bardock couldn't even handle Frieza in his First Form, Gohan was not only able to pressure Frieza's Third Form as a young child but went toe-to-toe with his Final Form for a brief moment, powering up and smacking Frieza around as though he were the Super Saiyan!

3 Vegeta

Vegeta finally admits that Goku is stronger than him in Dragon Ball Z

As the son of King Vegeta, Vegeta was one of Universe 7's strongest Saiyans even in his youth's early days. Even as a young boy, he was leagues above Bardock.

While Bardock was sent to conquer entire worlds with a handful of other Saiyans, Vegeta was sent on missions to do the same thing completely on his own, a sign of his raw destructive power and fighting ability that would later lead him to greatness.

2 Goku

Goku on the Nimbus with his Power Pole

Initially, Goku struggled to defeat normal Earthlings like Yamcha, Master Roshi, and Tien, all characters that Bardock would defeat without even trying. At this point in the story, Goku has far surpassed Bardock, becoming the first Super Saiyan God in centuries. However, the point at which he surpassed Bardock for good undoubtedly occurred during his training with King Kai.

After struggling to defeat Raditz before that, he later gained enough power to hold his own against Vegeta and handle powerful techniques like the Spirit Bomb and Kaio-ken, the latter crippling a Saiyan elite like Nappa. He further surpassed Bardock during his training en route to Namek, where unbeknownst to him, he became strong enough to last a few rounds with Frieza in his Final Form.

1 Broly

Broly in his Super Saiyan Form

As a child, Broly was born with such a high power level that his mere existence served as a threat to King Vegeta's rule.

After he demonstrated his instinctive capability for battle and ever-increasing power that enabled him to keep up with god-level warriors, there's no question that he's a lot stronger than Bardock, and probably was for most of his life.
