Besides the incredible transformations, part of what keeps us coming back for more Dragon Ball are all of the techniques that have enabled characters to level entire forests, obliterate armadas, and even destroy whole planets. While many of these techniques go by different names and appearances, they essentially do the same thing: obliterate whatever is in their path.

There are other techniques, however, that can be used to get the job done without just disintegrating everything in the near-vicinity. Below is a list of some of the most unique techniques in the franchise that, while they may not be the most powerful or useful, can allow the user to perform feats that no other technique can come close to replicating.

10 Body Change

Captain Ginyu's Body Change allows him to win a fight by turning his opponent's own strengths against them. After using this move, he can swap bodies with his target, gaining their strength and abilities. It also lets him recover from near-death experiences without the aid of something like a Senzu bean, as seen after he mortally wounded himself before stealing Goku's body, trapping the Saiyan warrior in his former battered vessel.

If you think about it, this technique could allow Ginyu to truly live forever, since he can always swap bodies with a younger vessel every time his current vessel grows closer to his final day. Just as long as he can manage to stay far, far away from Vegeta.

9 Energy Threads

Many of these techniques were used by characters that aren't exactly regarded as powerhouses in the series. That doesn't mean that all of these attacks are completely useless though. Pride Trooper Kunshi possessed the ability to shoot bright orange threads of energy from his hands that could not only detonate on contact with a target, but could be laid all around him to form a dangerous minefield.

He could also negate this detonating effect in order to use these threads to lift people and items. It's not often that we've seen characters who can change the nature of their ki, and Kunshi's ability to actually materialize his into strings with several practical uses makes us wonder just who taught him how to make the most of this unique ability.

8 Four Witches Technique

The Four Witches Technique is one frequented by Tien, although it hasn't helped him out as much as some of his other moves. He first debuted this technique during his fight against Goku in the 22nd World Tournament. In order to combat Goku's impressive offensive, he sprouted two extra arms, which he used to attack with twice the efficiency as usual. We later saw him use this technique in Dragon Ball Super in a terribly failed attempt to pacify Master Roshi after he'd been taken over by Yurin's sorcery.

We're not here to debate whether or not this technique is useful (spoiler alert: it's not). We just can't think of any other techniques that have allowed characters to grow extra limbs! It's a shame the Dragon Ball world isn't as big on hand sign activations as the Naruto world is, or else Tien would be able to cast jutsu faster than anyone else.

7 Shapeshifting

Shapeshifting is an ability that isn't really favored by powerful fighters, mostly due to the fact that it doesn't automatically increase one's strength, even if they manage to change their appearance to resemble someone as powerful as Beerus.

We've mostly seen Oolong and Puar utilize this technique for its most common use: to deceive an opponent. If used properly, it can get someone to believe that the user is more intimidating than they actually are.

6 Charging Ultra Buu Buu Volleyball

Gotenks turns Buu into a volleyball in Dragon Ball Z

Yes, we're aware that this technique creates huge craters in the earth like most techniques in this franchise, but it's how this move is even pulled off that earns it a spot on this list. After trapping an opponent in a volley of Galactic Donuts, Gotenks's opponent becomes encased in a sphere of energy that takes the form of a bright yellow volleyball. Gotenks can then spike the projectile down to create a huge detonation on impact.

While it may appear to turn its target into an oversized volleyball, this technique actually just traps them in a position so uncomfortable that we can't imagine it being used on anyone without Buu's level of flexibility. Extra points to Gotenks for involving Piccolo in the attack even though he's been shown in several videogames pulling off this move without a partner.

5 Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack

The Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack in Dragon Ball Z.

Since Gotenks is the fusion of two children, we expected him to have some wacky techniques, but nothing none of his other moves are as unique as his Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, which consists of him spitting out a whole army of ghosts made out of his ki. These ghosts detonate after making contact with anything, even other ghosts.

We've seen several mouth beans used by the likes of characters like Piccolo, Nappa, and Recome, but never before had we seen someone regurgitate conscious entities in the place of a beam of pure energy. At times it was easy to forget that these ghosts weren't individual characters themselves, given their unique personalities and strategies for luring Super Buu close.

4 Magic Touch

In Dragon Ball Z we were introduced to Majin Buu, a villain who could turn people into candy (or any other treat he desired). Though fans and the Z-Fighters were blown away by this ability, it wasn't the first time we'd seen something like this. Dragon Ball's Monster Carrot controlled an entire village all due to his unique ability to turn anyone that he touched into a carrot. While Majin Buu's Chocolate Beam can be dodged and can even be reflected, there's no getting around Monster Carrot's ability. All it takes is a simple touch and you become his dinner, whether he touched you or you touched him.

While this technique is most likely supposed to be taken as a joke, we have many questions about this peculiar ability. Is Monster Carrot not able to turn this ability off? Would it work on someone like Jiren or even Whis? How did Monster Carrot even discover he had this ability? In Xenoverse 2, a Time Patroller attributed this ability as one that made Earth still a dangerous place, paying homage to a terrifying technique that often goes overlooked.

3 Flooding Technique

Goku's battle against Arqua in the Other World Tournament gave us a move unlike many others we've seen. Arqua was a fighter whose true potential truly shown when he was submerged in a body of water. Since most arenas don't come with a pool, Arqua used his Flooding Technique to, as the name suggests, flood the entire ring.

Not only is the flooding instantaneous, but for some strange reason, the water managed to only cover the perimeter of the arena, forming a water prison for he and Goku to fight in that didn't leak all over the place.

2 Illusion Smash

In his base form, Janemba used his Illusion Smash technique to smack Goku around by punching into portals that opened up right next to Goku, allowing him to give the Saiyan a beating without moving from one spot.

We know he looked like a total couch potato, but we never expected his techniques to reflect it.

1 The Work of the Gods

With just one swipe of his Sickle of Sorrow, Goku Black opened up a ghastly portal in the sky. In the anime, he used this rift to generate several clones of darkness to keep Goku and Vegeta preoccupied, but he even stated himself that he had no idea where the rift led.

We've never seen someone use a technique where even they weren't certain of the effects, making this technique just as risky as it is ominous.
