Son Goku, also known by his Saiyan name Kakarot, is often considered to be the father of modern shonen protagonists. Goku is the blueprint that many shonen characters are based on, so it makes sense that Goku, whose official birthday is April 16th, would have the first sign of the zodiac: Aries.

As the archetypical shonen protagonist, Goku's personality is both bold and well defined, which perfectly matches his astrological sign. Being an Aries makes Goku a fire sign, which fits well with his passionate personality. Goku never does anything halfway in the Dragon Ball series. Whether it be fighting, food or protecting the plant, Goku always puts his all into it.

Son Goku's Personality As an Aries

Those with the Aries zodiac are often described as free spirits who have trouble staying in one place or focusing on a single task. Goku has always sought out adventure and the next fight. As a young child, Goku went on a quest to collect the Dragon Balls, competed in multiple martial arts tournaments and fought off numerous threats to the planet -- all with a pretty carefree attitude.

Goku is almost purely motivated by what interests him in the moment and doesn't take most of his responsibilities seriously. This lack of discipline can cause him to be neglectful and irresponsible. After defeating Frieza on Namek, Goku refused to return home to his wife, child and friends; instead, he decided to stay on an alien planet and train. Goku even gave a Senzu bean to Cell, a villain that was planning on killing Goku's family and destroying the planet, just so he would be at full strength when fighting his son.

Goku's warrior spirit is another quality of the Aries sign that he embodies. Whether it's because of his Saiyan DNA 0r just because he was trained in martial arts since he was a child, Goku has always loved fighting. He constantly seeks out conflict and competition so he can test his strength. Part of the reason why Goku spared Vegeta's life after stopping the Saiyan prince from blowing up the planet is so they could fight again one day. When the Tournament of Power was announced, Goku was excited to participate despite the fact that losing universes would get wiped from existence.

In spite of his usual goofy and carefree personality, Goku still shows the trademark aggression and anger associated with the Aries sign. After witnessing multiple atrocities committed by Frieza's henchmen and seeing his friends killed, Goku was filled with rage. This righteous anger allowed him to surpass his limits and achieve the legendary Super Saiyan form. However, he let go of that anger just as quickly when he offered Frieza multiple chances to surrender.

Son Goku's Aries Moments

No other character in anime reflects the qualities of an Aries quite like Goku. Just like the ram that represents this zodiac sign, Goku rushes to meet all of his challenges head-on. This headfirst thinking can lead to some interesting moments in combat, like when Goku bit Frieaza's tail or when he decided to sacrifice himself by holding Raditz still so Piccolo could hit them both with an attack.

Goku's Aries side shone through once again when he forgot to take medicine given to him by Future Trucks. Trucks specifically told Goku that he would contract a heart virus that was destined to kill him and that the medicine would save his life. Years later, the heart virus that he was warned about nearly kills him because he stopped taking the medicine. Scatterbrained moments like these are a major downside to the impulsive personality of an Aries.

Those whose sign belongs to Aries like Goku are brash, confident and fearless in the face of adversity. Every challenge and hardship is just another opportunity to prove their power and strength. They are passionate individuals who follow their gut when faced with hard choices. As a true Aries, Goku is forever searching for the next fight and the next challenge to overcome.
