Goku and Chi-Chi have a complicated relationship to say the least. They may be the least romantic couple in any median of entertainment, can count on one hand how often they've had loving moments together. You'd need about fifteen people to count how many times Chi-Chi has yelled at Goku though.

That's just part of their dynamic, two characters who are very much different from one another. If we are honest, Goku probably shouldn't be in a relationship with anyone, but since he is, Chi-Chi may still be the best pick of the bunch.

10 Right: She's Known Him For Years

Knowing someone for a long time doesn't automatically mean you're destined to fall in love with someone, heck, it might not even make you best friends, but it helps. She knows what Goku's been through and understands his upbringing, knowing why he's so naive about certain things, like love. That's a necessity if you want to be in a relationship with him because he's not going to understand certain norms of what to do and what not to do, shown in full during Dragon Ball.

9 Not: She's Bossy

Chi-Chi yells at Goku for not remembering her in Dragon Ball

This is the biggest complaint about her character from anyone who's watched the show. Chi-Chi spends half of her time yelling at someone about something, be it Goku or Master Roshi, she's always in a mood. Rarely if ever do we see her completely calm and relaxed, so tightly wound that she's a volcano looking to explode at every moment. Part of this is due to Dragon Ball's overall characterization of women in the series isn't all that great. Bulma's main characteristic was whining for a good chunk of the series.

8 Right: She Can Fight

Being able to fight is a must if you're going to be with Goku as it's all he ever thinks about. While Chi-Chi isn't going to be confused with Krillin or Roshi in terms of fighting prowess, she can hold her own when she has to.

There's a reason Chi-Chi is the only person that Goku fears, and it isn't just because she yells and screams a lot. If she were willing to train with him, Goku might end up having her ideal mate in life, but she prefers her life as a doting mother.

7 Not: Won't Respect His Wishes

Goku just wants to fight, that's been his character since he was a little kid in Dragon Ball. He's always wanted to continue to improve himself so he can continually fight stronger and stronger opponents. While there's no denying that this causes Goku to be a less than stellar parent, it's a part of his personality that Chi-Chi should be well versed in. She should know and expect that he's going to run off at a moment's notice and that trying to get him to change isn't going to work.

6 Right: Strict, But Good Mother

There's no questioning that Chi-Chi is overbearing in her parenting style, something that will get touched on later, but that doesn't change how good of a mother she is. She helps Gohan become the intellectual man that he is, helping his mind surpass his fathers ten times over. She does all of this as what amounts to being a single parent as well. That's something to be commended and a trait Goku probably apprectiates, despite him never saying so.

5 Not: Forced Goku Into Marriage

This may be the worst entry on the list as it shows both how possessive Chi-Chi is and how crazy she be. When they first met Goku made a promise that he'd marry her, having no idea what that meant at the time.

Hell, he didn't even know what true love was either. The fact that five years later she enters the Martial Arts Tournament to call in that promise is nuts. Who even remembers something like that? Why would you even want to marry someone you hadn't seen in five years? None of it makes a whole lot of sense, and it makes her look like a pretty crazy person.

4 Right: Cares About Him

For all her craziness, Chi-Chi really does love Goku. It's a borderline infatuation when you think about it. Who else could forgive him for constantly flying off and slacking on his fatherly duties? Sure she yells at him, but she always forgives him. The same is true during the Android Saga when he had his heart condition. She was by his bed the whole time, trying to nurse him back to health. She'd do anything she could if it meant keeping him safe.

3 Not: She's Abusive

Chi-Chi beats up Goku in Dragon Ball Super

This is the exact opposite of love, but no one ever said their relationship was perfect. While she may care for him, she's downright abusive at times. The yelling has been covered already, but it's far from the only thing she's done. She lobbed physical abuse at him just as much as emotional. It gets to the point that at times you can understand why Goku flees from her whenever he can. Who would want to live in a house where that's commonplace?

2 Right: She's A Great Cook

If you want to find your way to Goku's heart, you damn well better be a good cook, and Chi-Chi has that covered. Goku's appetite is legendary, able to eat about twenty servings before finally being filled up. It's been played as a gag many times in both Dragon Ball and Z. The fact she makes good food may even be one of the underlying reasons Goku ever even returns home rather than staying off training somewhere.

1 Not: Overprotectivness Of Gohan

While she puts him on a good path and is a caring mother, Chi-Chi is very over the top with her parenting. Understandably, she wouldn't want him running off to Namek to retrieve the Dragon Balls or fighting powerful enemies such as Cell, but there comes a time when you have to let him live his life. She so rarely ever lets him make his own choices. That sort of overprotectiveness is only going to lead to your kids defying what you want just to have a taste of freedom. It also affects the time he gets to spend with his dad.
