In the world of Dragon Ball, no move is as iconic than Goku's Kamehameha. Over the past 35 years, the blue energy beam has become Goku's go-to attack, helping him and his allies out in about a dozen terrible situations. However, during his training with King Kai, Goku learned what is considered his most potent attack, the Spirit Bomb. This enormous attack gathers the energy of living beings and launches a bomb as big as the moon on to its target. Both moves are incredible in their own rights, but which one is Goku's best move? We'll be giving five reasons why the Kamehameha is his best attack and five reasons why it's the Spirit Bomb.

10 Kamehameha: Can be powered up mid-attack

Whenever Goku thinks his Kamehameha doesn't have enough oomph to it, he's able to give the beam more energy during the attack. As seen in his fights with Vegeta, Frieza, and Zamasu, Goku can increase the power of his Kamehameha while it's being used. Compare that to the Spirit Bomb that can't be given any more energy while the attack is in use; it makes it easier for the villains to underestimate Goku, only for him to surprise them and use even more power to finish them off.

9 Spirit Bomb: Larger attack Radius

While the Kamehameha is strong, the one downside is that it only fires in a narrow, straight forward direction. Because of this, it makes the Kamehameha an easy to dodge attack. Sure, it can be controlled and guided, but it takes a lot of energy out of the wave to do so. While the smaller Spirit Bomb missed Vegeta, the much larger version has been able to at least to make contact with the opponent. If the bomb works on them is a different story.

8 Kamehameha: Can be used in any form

For Goku to gather the energy needed to use his Spirit Bomb, he has to be in his base form. This is because his Super Saiyan transformations are fuel by rage, and one must be pure of heart to gain the energy needed from the nearby living organisms. The Kamehameha, meanwhile, can be used in any form and doesn't need one to power down to use it.

7 Spirit Bomb: Can absorb energy for a power boost

During Goku's fight with Super Android 13, he absorbed the energy of the Spirit Bomb and gave himself a significant power boost to destroy the titular villain. While he hasn't used this in the main timeline, Goku absorbing the Spirit Bomb has been seen in a plethora of video games, such as Budokai 3, where he used the energy to launch his Super Dragon Fist.

6 Kamehameha: Higher Victory Rate

If you think about it, the Spirit Bomb has been able to kill only a handful of enemies. If we don't count either GT or the films, the only opponent that the Spirit Bomb has killed was Kid Buu. Vegeta and Frieza were able to survive the monstrous bomb, while the nigh-unstoppable Jiren was able to push back the attack. The Kamehameha wave, in comparison, has been able to defeat foes like Cell, Golden Frieza, Kefla, and several different enemies.

5 Spirit Bomb: Will not hurt anyone pure of heart

The Kamehameha will hurt anyone, regardless if it's friend or foe. If an opponent grabs a close-by ally, they can use them as a shield, and it will hurt them. The Spirit Bomb, as said by Goku to Gohan, will only hurt those with impurity in their heart. So, if Goku uses the Spirit Bomb and someone gets in the way, it won't hurt any ally, like his son. However, if it's someone like Vegeta, who has plenty of evilness in his heart, you better be lucky for someone like good Buu or Mr. Satan to help you get out of the way.

4 Kamehameha: Can be charged up quickly

As Goku continues to train, he is able to charge up the energy that's required to use specific attacks at a much faster rate. This is most certainly true with Goku's Kamehameha. Throughout Dragon Ball Super and the last few movies, he's been able to use the Kamehameha at a much more frequent rate than in DBZ. The Spirit Bomb, in the meantime, requires Goku a lot of time to charge it up. This leaves Goku vulnerable for a few minutes, so he must use this when the opponent is busy with someone else.

3 Spirit Bomb: Doesn't require aiming to use

If you have to use a Kamehameha, you better have a good eye to use it with. As mentioned before, it's pretty easy to dodge a fully-powered Kamehameha. The Spirit Bomb doesn't require such. All one needs to do for the attack to make contact with them is to feel out the evil energy of a foe, as told by King Kai himself.

2 Kamehameha: Can be Combined with other attacks

The Kamehameha alone is a strong attack, but it's become even stronger when combined with other techniques. Some examples include Goku using his Instant Transmission to blast foes like Cell and Top at close-range or combining it with Vegeta's Final Flash/Galick Gun to unleash a duel beam attack. If that's not awesome enough, whenever Goku and Vegeta fuse, the attack becomes even stronger with Vegito's Final Kamehameha and Gogeta's Big Bang Kamehameha. The Spirit Bomb has yet to receive a combo attack, but maybe we'll see something like that in the coming future.

1 Spirit Bomb: It's his strongest attack

Whatever praise you can give to the Kamehameha, the Spirit Bomb is objectively his most powerful technique available. Even though opponents like Vegeta and Frieza were able to survive that devastating explosion of the attack, you can see the amount of damage they've endured. Vegeta was limping when he got back up, while Frieza's left eye was temporarily unusable, and part of his tail was gone. While the Kamehameha has blown up Cell's upper half, Goku had to combine it with the Instant Transmission to do so. But, even on its own, The Kamehameha can't measure up with the Spirit Bomb, if we're talking pure strength.
