Dragon Ball is a franchise that can feel older than time itself. It is known for its over the top nature, enduring characters, drawn-out battles, and its absurd power scaling system. From Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and even GT, there have been some impressive techniques that have gone on to define the franchise as well as its characters.

We all know the Kamehameha, the special beam cannon, and the Destructo disk, but there have been plenty of techniques throughout the series that have made brief appearances, never to return. In this list, we'll be taking a look at the most powerful techniques from the franchise rarely used today.

10 Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan

Anime super saiyan spirit bomb

An underserved technique that has only appeared once in the entire Dragon Ball continuity, the Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan. It was a technique that was used by Goku in his battle against Super Android 13 from the Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13 movie. It combines the power of his spirit bomb with the power of the Saiyans. During his fight with Android 13, he called upon the earth for energy to form a spirit bomb. After turning Super Saiyan, Goku absorbs the power from the spirit bomb, fueling his strength to defeat his opponent. If used in the series today, the Spirit Bomb Super Saiyan would be even more deadly, especially in conjunction with a fusion or god form.

9 Shin Kikoho

Primarily used by Tien, the Shin Kikoho by sheer power scaling would be one of the deadliest techniques in the series. It was first used against Cell in his semi-perfect form to save Android 18 and 16. The power gap between Tien and Cell was staggering. But through the use of his life force, Tien's attack was able to slow him down. The attack wasn't able to weaken Cell, but he did sustain damage from the blast. A technique, if perfected by Goku, Vegeta, or any of the more powerful Z-fighters, then it would have the power to destroy an opponent in a single blast.

8 Revenge Death Ball

Although Dragon Ball GT is no longer considered canon, there is still a wealth of powerful techniques exclusive to the series. The Revenge Death Ball is one of the deadliest attacks of any villain Goku has ever faced. Created from all the negative energy of the people Baby has possessed, the technique serves as his final attack. It is so powerful that it could destroy an entire planet on contact and is known to shake the very fabric of dimensions. Unfortunately, the attack was no use against Super Saiyan 4 Goku, a powerful transformation that was replaced by Super Saiyan God.

7 Negative Karma Ball

A technique that is exclusive to Omega Shenron from Dragon Ball GT, the Negative Karma Ball is said to possess the potential to destroy an entire universe. The attack appears as a glowing red orb that grows from Omega Shenron's chest, eventually launching at his opponents.

The Negative Karma Ball holds compressed Minus Energy from the Dragon Balls and the Shadow Dragons, acting as an evil version of Goku's Spirit Bomb. If not for Goku's interference, injecting the Karma Ball with positive energy it may have destroyed all life in the known cosmos. With an attack this powerful, it would be hard to ignore its place among the best in the franchise.

6 Evil Containment Wave

Master Roshi uses the Evil Containment Wave in Dragon Ball Super

The Evil Containment Wave has become somewhat of a MacGuffin. The technique originated during the King Piccolo saga of Dragon Ball as a method to contain the evil king in an electric rice cooker. Although this technique does not kill or harm its victim, it does have the power to seal any level of evil within the container of choice, so long as the vessel doesn't break. The Evil Containment Wave disappeared for the next 30 years, only to make a return in Dragon Ball Super as a means to contain the power of the immortal Zamasu. For a technique that has only appeared in two instances in the series, it has quite a reputation.

5 Big Bang Kamehameha

Anime BIG Bang Kamehameha gt

A fusion attack that combines the unique abilities of both Vegeta and Goku, the Big Bang Kamehameha, has only been used twice throughout the series. First used during the Majin Buu saga of Dragon Ball Z, the technique managed to inflict a great deal of damage to Buu, and if not for his absurd regenerative abilities, would have likely killed him.

Its next appearance came during the Omega Shenron saga of Dragon Ball GT. Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta used the incredible powers of the technique to obliterate the Shadow Dragon and nearly destroy Omega Shenron. We can all hope for a future appearance that includes Vegeta and Goku's God forms.

4 Stardust Breaker

A technique that has made appearances in the Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn movie as well as Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the Stardust Breaker, is one of the deadliest attacks to exist within the Dragon Ball Universe. First, being used to destroy the Janemba, the technique resurfaced years later in Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta's battle with Broly. The ability couples a barrage of physical attacks with a devastating Ki based explosion of energy that erases all evil within its given target. It is surprising to see such a potent technique only appear in the movies; it would have come in handy during the Tournament Of Power.

3 Dragon Fist

Dragon Fist against Hirudegarn in Dragon Ball.

The all-powerful Dragon Fist. First introduced in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath Of The Dragon as a last resort against Hirudegarn, the technique later reappeared in Dragon Ball GT in conjunction with Goku's 10x Kamehameha in an attempt to defeat Omega Shenron. It is oddly reminiscent of the Penetrate technique that Goku used to defeat King Piccolo from Dragon Ball. Although they are the same attack, the presentation varies between the movie and the series, with different animations for the golden dragon that emerges from the explosive assault. It is a technique that masterfully employs the users Ki to produce an attack capable of annihilating opponents much stronger than its wielder.

2 Universal Spirit Bomb

The technique that saved the earth, as well as universe 7, from imminent destruction at the hands of Omega Shenron, the Universal Spirit Bomb. The vastly superior sibling of the technique we all know and love, except instead of drawing on just the power of the earth, it draws on power from the entire universe. After exercising various techniques to no avail, Goku managed to use the strength of the Universal Spirit Bomb to defeat Omega Shenron and restore the power of the dragon balls. Considering some of the most powerful techniques in the franchise were employed in an attempt to stop Omega Shenron, finds itself near the top of the list because it was the only one to succeed.

1 Human Extinction Attack

The most powerful technique that exists within the lore of the Dragon Ball franchise is the Human Extinction Attack. An attack so deadly that before the existence of Dragon Ball Super, the technique had only used once in the entire series. The Human Extinction Attack, used by both Majin Buu and Future Zamasu, has the power to kill all life on the planet in a matter of minutes. Aside from Erase, an ability used multiple times by Zeno throughout Drago Ball Super that has the power to erase universes from existence, the Human Extinction attack is the single most lethal technique in the franchise.
