Frieza destroys Namek in Dragon Ball Z

After Goku gains the upper hand in fighting Frieza, the mad titan is having trouble taking on the legendary Super Saiyan. His power level is so strong that it destroys the computers of one of Frieza's close-by Watchtowers, killing everyone in there. Back on Namek, Frieza attempts to destroy the entire planet with one attack. However, he only manages to destroy the core but claims that the planet will explode in 5 minutes (which is like seven episodes in DBZ terms). While the filler content drags, audiences still love the action between Frieza and Goku.

Seeing Frieza get the upper hand seemed to have left viewers excited, back in 1999, as to what Goku will do next time.

After Vegeta and Frieza have a quick fight in the last episode, Vegeta demands that Frieza show his second transformation. After a small display, Frieza decides to kill one of them and impales Krillin through the chest. While there wasn't that much in the way of actual fighting, seeing Frieza transform was a real shocker for many who first watched it on Toonami, back in the day

6 6) The Ultimate Battle (7.9, 337 votes)

After killing Vegeta, Goku begins his battle with Frieza. It would seem that the two beings are evenly matched, trading blow after blow. During the battle, Frieza causes a large crater on planet Namek that begins to spew lava. Goku closes it up, but Frieza then throws him in the lake. Luckily, with the power of his Kamehameha attack, Goku manages to launch a sneak attack on Frieza. The fight may have been just the appetizer for the long battle between Goku and Frieza, but it was one heck of an appetizer. Viewers would have to wait for a few more episodes for the battle to really get started.

Frieza's energy discs, Dragon Ball

After Frieza begins to start using his powerful Death Saucers, Goku begins to come up with a plan. He uses the after image technique and even manages to slap the daylights out of Frieza. After this assault, Frieza begins to get angry and slips up. Despite Goku's warning, Frieza is too late and is sliced in half by his own attack. It may have taken Goku 20+ episodes, but He was finally able to defeat Frieza once and for all. It's pretty easy to see why a lot of audiences were big fans of this penultimate episode to the Goku vs. Frieza battle.

After Frieza impales Krillin, he begins torturing Goku's best friend. He starts throbbing the small man with his large horn(phrasing), before tossing him in the lake. After witnessing what was presumably Krillin's death, Gohan snaps and begins to attack Frieza. While the young Saiyan is unable to defeat Frieza, he does damage him. However, it seems that Gohan used up all his energy and, despite some help from Vegeta, begins to be crushed under Frieza's foot slowly.

With the last of his words, Vegeta begs Goku to defeat Frieza once and for all. Goku then buries Vegeta before beginning his battle with Frieza. It was such a sad prologue to one of the most iconic fights in all of anime.
