It's been four years since players got a chance to revisit the dark fantasy word of Dragon Age in a new video game but that a new teaser trailer for BioWare hints at a return to the world of monsters and magic.

At last night's The Game Awards in Los Angeles, the acclaimed RPG developer released a brief clip with the familiar musical cues and artwork from previous installments of the franchise. As the teaser reaches its end, a lone figure is seen confronting what appears to be a dragon as the hashtag #TheDreadWolfRises is displayed.

While the trailer doesn't mention a release date or even an official title, BioWare's return to the popular franchise for a fourth installment is a welcome announcement. The most recent Dragon Age title was 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition, featuring a civil war between magic users and the Chantry, the fictional world of Thedas' powerful religious organization.

The franchise had begun in 2009 with the universally acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins, which received a standalone expansion Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, and continued in 2011 with Dragon Age II. Judging by the first look trailer, it looks like the upcoming title will return the franchise to a focus on monster-slaying action instead of internal strife and intrigue.
