NBC’s Dracula just gathered two recognizable stars from other fantasy television series. Katie McGrath, better known as Morgana on Merlin, and Nonso Anozie, most recognizable as Xaro Xohan Daxos on Game of Thrones, have taken major roles on the upcoming drama.
TVLine has the news, as well as details on who they’re playing. McGrath will portray Lucy Westenra, the best friend of Jessica De Gouw‘s Mina Murray who “gradually becomes entwined in a web of lies, lust and temptation that challenges the boundaries of their relationship.” Lucy is “aristocratic London’s sexy, social butterfly who has a penchant for gossip, flirting and all things glamorous.”
Anozie has been cast as R.M. Renfield, the confidante of Alan Grayson, the alter ego of Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ Dracula. He is the “keeper of Dracula’s deepest and darkest secrets and the stabilizing force that allows his two personas to successfully coexist.”
Dracula follows the titular vampire as he arrives in 1890s London, posing as an American entrepreneur who desires to introduce modern science to Victorian society. But secretly the Count is plotting revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier — that is, until he falls hopelessly in love with a woman (De Gouw) who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.
Based on an idea by Tony Krantz, the drama is produced by Krantz’s Flame Ventures, Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment, Universal TV and NBCU International Productions’ Carnival Films & Television, the company behind the hit Downton Abbey.
