Rule number one: you can't beat Doom. While there are a few villains out there that are stronger than the ruler of Latveria, there aren't many with the same thirst for power.

Already a powerful foe when he was introduced over 50 years ago, Doom has been a constant quest for power that has in the past few years notably led to him destroying the Multiverse and remaking it in his image. Still, even as an internationally notorious dictator, he's a formidable combatant thanks to the many features of his mysterious armor (as if being a notorious dictator wasn't enough.) We've put together a list of some of the most dangerous elements of said armor, so read on below if you aren't already familiar with just how nasty this guy can be.

11 Freeze Gloves

10

First used by Doom in a scuffle with The Red Skull, its purpose then was to seal a hole in his armor before the dead space of The Moon could suck all the oxygen out. As far as uses for a freeze glove go, this is one of the more esoteric, as an ability to freeze something could serve a purpose in plenty of settings than just acting as makeshift armor.

In fact, one as illustrious as Doom probably dreaded the fact that he needed to cover himself with anything less than his fine magical alloy. Just don't let him take that anger out on your car's motor, because there are no doubt some more dangerous ways a freeze glove could be put to use.

9 An Electrical Field

Like his anti-magnetic field, but, instead of neutralizing magnetic forces, it emits a potentially lethal dose of electricity depending on who is on the receiving end. This is one of Doom's more commonly used tricks, featuring prominently in promotional material.

Still, if your name isn't Reed Richards, chances are your anti-Doom precautions are weak at best and ill-informed at worst, making his electric field something that has served him well against his enemies over the years. To think this isn't even Doom's most deadly means of inflicting pain on others—though it does come pretty close!

8 Inhibitor Ray

This is one of several of Doom's weapons that was never actually a permanent part of his armor. He used it for a time, the effect being that anybody who wanted to do him harm simply couldn't. As far as abilities go, this is one of the less imaginative ones on this list, but there were a lot of weapons and powers introduced in the early days of comics that acted more as cheap plot devices than actual functional things.

This one appeared in John Byrne's run on Fantastic Four, 3 years before Watchmen would lead fans to demand a higher caliber of story from their monthly, or often weekly, pull.

7 Sonic Drill

Another of Doom's weapons that wasn't a mandatory part of his armor. Though it was largely used as a tool for burrowing, Doom did use it for offensive purposes in a showdown with Attuma and Tiger Shark during a mission to the Hydrobase research center. Like most of Doom's gadgets, it doesn't seem to have been used much, but that's not to say it isn't useful.

In fact, Doom's short attention span when it comes to crafting tech might be one of his greatest flaws as a character. After all, what would he do if he had to drill yet another hole, but didn't have his Sonic Drill at the ready?

6 Knuckle Rockets

It seems that Doom's most interesting artillery doesn't come stock, and perhaps it's that feeling of not knowing what you're going to get that makes him so deadly. Doom's Knuckle Rockets were crafted for the purpose of neutralizing The Human Torch. A collision with these rockets and Torch's powers would be useless. Though they don't seem to have been used since they seem to be an underappreciated device considering just how deadly The Human Torch is at full power.

Seeing as Marvel Studios is setting up the introduction of the Fantastic Four in the MCU, here's hoping we see these rockets make a comeback.

5 Stun-Shocker

Unlike Doom's Knuckle Rockets, the Stun-Shocker doesn't have a lot more to it than what its name suggests. This is a device that stuns enemies, knocking them out cold. It was fitted on his armor specifically for the same raid on Hydrobase where he used the Sonic Drill, but the fact it hasn't been seen much since is a crime.

This is an incredibly useful device, especially for Doom and the kinds of things he attempts to achieve. Many refuse to submit to Doom when he's on a scheme, but with a device like this, they wouldn't have to. It's a shame, really.

4 Intensified Molecule Projector

Okay, now we're talking. This is probably one of Doom's coolest devices. There's actually no way to describe what this thing does that doesn't sound cool. Basically, it creates synthetic molecules that, in their interaction with oxygen, take the form of solid stone that can then be hurled at an enemy.

In the wrong setting, this could easily be mistaken for telekinesis, but it's actually much cooler. Telekinesis wishes it was an Intensified Molecule Projector. In fact, we should all lobby for less telekinetic characters and more intensified molecule projecting ones.

3 Fingertip Darts

This is a weapon that's purpose is almost as obvious as the Stun-Shocker. Obviously, these are darts that emit from the fingertips of Doom's armor, and, if you've seen enough 70s kung-fu movies, you might assume they're laced with poison (which they are.) A simple weapon for a simple time. In the post-Morrison days of syllable gymnastics, these would probably have a name like Psycho-Decomposing Eternity Tips and not something way easier to grasp, if not as cool-sounding, as Fingertip Darts.

2 Mini-Missle Launcher

An explosive weapon also used by his Doombots. It could be argued that using mini-missiles instead of regular missiles put Doom at a disadvantage in combat, though, in most cases, it really isn't the size of the missile that matters, but how you use it.

Like most of Doom's gadgets, this one wasn't used much after its initial appearance, as Doom tends to rely largely on his magic and cunning to seal victories. This is especially true in the modern age of comics, where the guy literally reshaped the Marvel Universe as part of a massively intricate master plan.

1 Instant Hypnotism Impulser

Here's one final gimmie to close out the list. Doom uses this device to hypnotize his opponent, which like a poison dart, is a tactic that villains don't really go for as much nowadays. In fact, a lot of Doom's repertoire is left over from the Silver and Bronze Age of comics, which, while definitely preserving his character, makes the list of abilities that would actually serve him well against a modern threat limited, though effective.

Yes, he can do just about anything with his magic, but, with gadgets that may not even stop the likes of 007, you have to ask whether Doom should be touting tech that matches the world-breaking, cosmic threat of his magic.
