IGN has reported that Doug Jones ("Hellboy," "Falling Skies") will appear on "Arrow" as the metahuman villain Jake Simmons, a.k.a. Deathbolt.

Jones will make his debut as the bad guy in the 19th episode of "Arrow's" currently airing third season. The episode, titled "Broken Arrow," will pit Oliver Queen up against Jones' Deathbolt, a metahuman possessing the ability to manipulate and weaponize plasma energy. This is a slight modification of Deathbolt's comic book ability of mastering electricity.

The character's inclusion on the CW drama marks a big shift in the series as Deathbolt will be the first ever metahuman villain to appear on the show. "Arrow" previously operated under a strict no super powers rule, but the recent "Flash" crossover episode changed executive producer Marc Guggenheim's mind on that matter.

"What's fun about episode 8 for 'Arrow' is it proved to me, as a writer and a producer, hey, you know what? You can do metahumans on 'Arrow' without feeling like the show is changing its tone too much," Guggenheim told CBR back in November. "It's something that we all sort of collectively realized -- hey, the show can handle that. So that's kind of cool. I might have to amend my earlier comment from the beginning of the year, just because this kind of works."

It's not yet clear whether or not Jones' Deathbolt got his powers from S.T.A.R. Labs' particle accelerator accident, which has been the catalyst for the superpowered characters that appear on "The Flash." Jones previously played Abe Sapien in both of Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy" films and also collaborated with the director in "Pan's Labyrinth." Jones also portrayed the Silver Surfer in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and has a regular role on the series "Falling Skies."
