Doomsday. The name echoes through the annals of comics history. Doomsday has the single greatest victory that any supervillain has chalked up- the beast succeeded in killing Superman. Over the years, many beings have tried to destroy the Man Of Steel, but only Doomsday has triumphed where none other has. It's a short list of beings who Superman fears, but Doomsday is on it.

Not even the Justice League could stand up to Doomsday. He's a primal force of destruction, the kind of beast that eats heroes. If Doomsday was in the Marvel Universe, what heroes would have a chance of taking him down? Which ones would fall before his fury?

10 Would Lose To: Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange feature

Doctor Strange is one of the greatest magic users of any universe. Armed with a plethora of mystical artifacts and knowing all of the most powerful magic spells, Stephen Strange stands between Earth and magical forces that would gleefully devour it.

Doomsday is an unmatched engine of physical destruction, but Doctor Strange would be able to outthink the beast, limiting the destruction he caused, and then using his magic to get rid of it. Strange just has so many options of dealing with Doomsday and all Doomsday can do is punch.

9 Would Defeat: Hyperion

Hyperion from Marvel Comics

Hyperion appears in many different versions of the Marvel Universe, sometimes as the leader of the Squadron Supreme, other times as leader of the Squadron Sinister, and other times as a world conquering despot. Recently, a version came to the 616 Earth and joined the Avengers. He's basically Superman.

Superman wasn't able to defeat Doomsday on his first encounter with the beast and neither would Hyperion. He would try, of course, and it would be a great fight, but in the end, Hyperion would fall.

8 Would Lose To: Silver Surfer

The Silver Sentinel of the Spaceways, Norrin Radd was once the Power Cosmic imbued herald of Galactus before rebelling against his master and striking out on his own, trying to make up for all the genocide his master committed with his help. There are few heroes in the Marvel Universe as noble, or as powerful, as the Silver Surfer.

The Power Cosmic gives Silver Surfer access to the kind of power that would allow him to destroy Doomsday. He could atomize the beast with his power blasts, duke it out with him with his amazing strength, or use his molecular control powers to transform him into vapor. Surfer just has too much power for Doomsday.

7 Would Defeat: Spider-Man

spider-man-web-shooter

Spider-Man would try to beat Doomsday. Protecting the people of New York City at any cost is something that Spider-Man lives for. If Doomsday came to town, Spidey would be one of the first heroes on the scene, saving the innocent and trying to slow the beast down.

Spider-Man is known for throwing himself against foes who outmatch him and pulling out a surprise win. It's almost one of his superpowers. However, he has no hope of that in this fight. His spider sense would allow him to avoid a lot Doomsday's attacks, but he'd get tired and Doomsday would land a shot. That one shot would be all it took. Doomsday is just so much stronger than anyone Spider-Man fought before.

6 Would Lose To: Cosmic Ghost Rider

Cosmic Ghost Rider solo series

What happens when you combine the Spirit of Vengeance with the Power Cosmic, put them in the Punisher and let him go crazy over the course of millennia? Cosmic Ghost Rider is what happens. CGR is vastly powerful, as befits a being who is both Ghost Rider and imbued with the Power Cosmic, and his precarious mental state makes him a very dangerous opponent.

If Silver Surfer can beat Doomsday, then Cosmic Ghost Rider, with the added power of the Spirit Of Vengeance, would be able to as well. Doomsday has never faced a being with the kind of power that CGR brings to the table.

5 Would Defeat: Captain America

Poor Captain America. He would try and fight Doomsday, but it would go so badly for him. Cap couldn't help but throw himself in front of the beast's path. Cap will take on any threat, regardless of how powerful the threat is, to protect the innocent. It's just who he is.

His shield would probably be able to stand up to blows from the monster. That's pretty much the only good news. He wouldn't be able to hurt Doomsday, although he would try. It's the trying that would spell his doom. Getting close to Doomsday would cost him his life.

4 Would Lose To: The Hulk

The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets. Hulk's potential strength is pretty much infinite and that's why he would win here. Doomsday and the Hulk are very similar creatures- monstrous engines of destruction that bowl over everything in their path. The sheer collateral damage of their clash would be stupefying.

However, as the fight went on, Hulk would get madder and madder. His strength would keep rising, reaching levels that it never has before. His gamma fueled healing factor would fix any damage that Doomsday did to him and, eventually, Hulk's incalculable level of strength would allow him to beat the monster.

3 Would Defeat: She-Hulk

Jennifer Walters got her Hulk powers from a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. Unlike her cousin, She-Hulk's always been in better control of herself than him and, as such, isn't as powerful as he is. She would definitely put herself in Doomsday's way if he attacked. However, she just wouldn't be able to stop him.

Now, as the fight progressed, she would definitely get stronger but her base strength isn't anywhere near her cousin's level. She-Hulk wouldn't be able to do as much damage as quickly and that would be her undoing. She would never have time to get to the higher levels of strength she would need to defeat Doomsday.

2 Would Lose To: Thor

Cosmic Thor Galactus Herald

Thor is the God of Thunder and is ridiculously powerful. Armed with the hammer Mjolnir, he has been smiting monsters for centuries. He'd probably think Doomsday was some kind of troll. He would underestimate the monster. At least, at first.

See, Thor is no dummy. He might start out thinking Doomsday was no big threat, but he would learn his lesson rather quickly and then turn up the power. Cutting loose with the lightning bolts, fighting smarter, Thor would be able to take the beast down. He could knock Doomsday down, drop the hammer on his chest, preventing the monster from getting up, and just rain blows on it until it stopped moving. Then he'd keep going, just to be safe.

1 Would Defeat: Iron Man

Iron Man is a guy who builds all kinds of specialty armors to face threats. Spoiler alert: they never work. Not once have any of those special suits of armor he's built ever really worked against what they were built to beat. Don't let how well the Hulkbuster armor in Avengers: Age Of Ultron did against the Hulk fool you: in the comics, it never works. None of his special armors do.

Iron Man would put on his Hulkbsuter armor against Doomsday. Doomsday would tear it to pieces, while the damage it did to him would be negligible at best. Without his armor, Iron Man is just Tony Stark. And against Doomsday, Tony Stark is just a red smear on the pavement.
