Doomsday Clock: Gary Frank Teases Superman/Doctor Manhattan Encounter

Doomsday Clock

Doomsday Clock, which features the long-awaited crossover between the DC Universe and the characters from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal comic book series Watchmen, has steadily been building towards a meeting between Superman and Doctor Manhattan.

Artist Gary Frank has tweeted a new image hinting at the eagerly anticipated confrontation between the Man of Steel and the omnipotent Watchmen character. More interestingly, the meeting looks like it's being orchestrated by a mysterious figure literally pulling at both characters' strings.

While Doctor Manhattan appears to be accusing Superman for something, the enigmatic manipulator is wearing what appears to be metal bracers. This suggests the events of the DC Comics crossover event are the larger machinations of Watchmen villain Ozymandias who also orchestrated the events of the classic Moore/Gibbons' story.

Another possibility, given the darker uniform with metallic wrist bracers is Black Adam. The Shazam villain has been teased heavily in the ancillary material for Doomsday Clock with the growing meta-human arms race around the world but has yet to make in appearance in the story itself.

No matter who is behind the crossover event, the meeting is sure to be one to resonate throughout the DC Universe for years to come.

Doomsday Clock #7 is written by Geoff Johns, drawn by Gary Frank, and colored by Brad Anderson. It is scheduled to be released on September 26.
