The teaser trailer for Season 3 of Doom Patrol has confirmed two unlikely villains: The Brain and Monsieur Mallah.
The Doom Patrol trailer begins with the team in the midst of taking on The Candlemaker. After that, it's through the looking glass and into the wild world of strangeness with powerful winds, a laser cannon, odd characters and something called… piffle paffle. Near the end of the trailer, The Brain, a disembodied brain in a cybernetic device, and Monseiur Mallah, a super-intelligent gorilla, make their first live-action appearance.
In the comics, The Brain was the leader of the Brotherhood of Evil, of which Monsieur Mallah was a member. The Brain was once a human scientist who experimented on animals, pushing the limits of scientific discovery. Through a series of tests, he increased a gorilla's intelligence until he reached genius levels and this subject became Mallah. However, in his jealousy, Caulder blew up the scientist's lab and ultimately destroyed his body. Mallah ended up saving his creator by transferring his brain into a computer network. After they escaped, they sought revenge on Caulder and his Doom Patrol, and a romantic relationship evolved between the two supervillains.
Season 2 of Doom Patrol ended prematurely as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic affecting production. In the finale, Dorothy and the Doom Patrol (sans Crazy Jane) go up against The Candlemaker in an empty county fair. Cliff, Larry, Rita and Victor face manifestations of their greatest fears and turn to wax as Dorothy walks into fire to confront her most dangerous creation one-on-one.
In Season 3, the heroes will face the Sisterhood of Dada, a team that consists of the villains Malcolm, who can go unnoticed despite his outlandish appearance, The Fog, Frenzy, Sleepwalk and The Quiz. The Deadboy Detectives will also appear this season along with Michelle Gomez as the shape-shifting Madame Rouge.
Doom Patrol Season 3 premieres Sept. 23 on HBO Max.
