HBO Max dropped the second trailer for Doom Patrol's fourth season, teasing new threats and snazzy costumes.

The trailer expands on what fans saw in the Doom Patrol Season 4 teaser with much more plot than the strange new singing and dancing killer monsters. It opens with Willoughby Kipling telling the crew that something "very big and very dangerous is on its way" to end the world -- the Immortus project, which pursues immortality. Now the team must use time travel to stop the project and save the world. However, as the Season Four tagline says, the Doom Patrol must decide if it's more important to save the world or preserve their own happiness. The new season premieres on Dec. 8 with the first two episodes.

Besides the sense of impending doom hovering over the ragtag heroes, the trailer showcased new costumes for the whole team, though it isn't clear if they pertain to the time travel aspect of the new season. One brief glimpse shows Robotman, Negative Man and Crazy Jane in what look like retro space outfits. Other clips show them watching themselves in classic black-and-white movies and reacting to some of the changes after their time jump -- including Cyborg's new braces.

Doom Patrol Season 4 Adds New Heroes and Villains

Returning cast members include Brendan Fraser and Riley Shanahan as Cliff Steele/Robotman, Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk as Larry Trainor/Negative Man, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman, Joivan Wade as Vic Stone/Cyborg and Michelle Gomez as Laura DeMille/Madame Rouge. Madeline Zima joins the cast in a recurring role as Casey Brinke, an EMT that gets caught up in the team's latest adventure. Showrunner Jeremy Carver teased Zima's character, praising the character as a favorite among the cast and crew.

"Casey is so beloved both by our writers on staff and by fans of Doom Patrol in general. We finally found a way to bring her into the story in a way that feels wholly organic to us, even though to someone who's never seen Doom Patrol, it might seem a little bats--- insane. To us, it fits perfectly! And it's not just a cameo."

Season 4 also adds former Heroes star Sendhil Ramamurthy as a mysterious new character named Mr. 104, an obscure villain from DC comics. The character, whose full name is Jonathan Dubrovny in the comics, was created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Bruno Premiani and originally appeared in 1965's Doom Patrol #98.

Doom Patrol premieres with the first two episodes on Dec. 8, streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
