WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Season 2 of Doom Patrol.

For the show's second season, actor Abigail Shapiro joined the cast of Doom Patrol as Dorothy Spinner. In an interview with CBR, Shapiro revealed that throughout the season, Dorothy will struggle with growing up.

"You're definitely seeing Dorothy grow up a little bit because the whole theme of this season is growing up," Shapiro said. "Dorothy is actually scared to grow up in a way because, as she grows up, she becomes more powerful and she doesn't want to hurt anyone."

Like her comic counterpart, Dorothy has the power to manifest her emotions and subconscious thoughts in the form of physical entities. During Grant Morrison's pivotal run in the Doom Patrol comic, Dorothy's powers do give rise to the Candlemaker, an entity with the potential to bring about the apocalypse. In fact, in the television show, it is fear of Dorothy's powers that drive her father Niles Caulder to obsessively pursue the means to outlive her.

Shapiro discussed how that fear of her own ability is tied up with her desire to not grow up. She explained, "So you're gonna see her kind of struggle with that throughout the season, keeping her powers at bay and not wanting to grow up but then realizing that growing up is inevitable and we all have to grow up at some point."

Streaming now on DC Universe and HBO Max, Doom Patrol stars Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor, Diana Guerrero as Crazy Jane, Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody, April Bowlby as Rita Farr, Joivan Wade as Vic Stone and Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder. Season 2 premiered on both services Thursday, June 25.
