WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the Doom PatrolSeason 1, Episode 12 "Cyborg Patrol," streaming now on DC Universe.

Since recovering from his accident, Cyborg (Joivan Wade) has made it clear to the Doom Patrol that his main life goal is to perfect how his machine aspect integrates with his human self, all so he could eventually earn a call up to the Justice League ranks. It's an aspiration he's shared with his father Silas (Phil Morris), but more so with Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton), which is why the latter has been helping him over the years as a mentor.

However, Doom Patrol, in one of its darkest turns yet, has potentially shattered Vic's dreams of joining DC's premier hero team. It has nothing to do with a lack of altruism or simply not cutting it as an aspiring superhero -- it's because Vic may have actually just murdered his dad in cold blood.

After being kidnapped by the Bureau of Normalcy, Cyborg was experimented upon and put through the wringer. The scientists want to weaponize him for the U.S. government, but his systems are failing following his removing the operating system known as Grid. While Grid helped Cyborg, basically acting as an artificial intelligence -- the JARVIS to his Iron Man -- it also served as Silas' tracking mechanism and overall form of control over Vic. Without it, though, his defense system is shot, and he's breaking down.

As his enemies run tests, Grid begins rebooting and actually rebuilding itself within Vic's body, turning him into more machine than man. While this is a painful process, one apparent side effect is the unlocking of a bunch of memories Silas hid. Eventually, when the rest of the Doom Patrol and Silas come for Vic, things go awry when Cyborg unlocks a memory which sends him on a lethal rampage.

Grid shows Vic camera footage of Silas and his team programming the young man using nanotechnology after the accident which killed his mom and left half his body destroyed. When Silas is warned about Grid's potential to take away Vic's humanity, he dismisses his colleague by saying, "Your point?" It's a cold and cruel moment, reflecting their relationship which has seen Silas treat his son like a tool as often as he does a person.

Realizing his dad had no second thoughts about rendering his human side null, all in the name of science, Cyborg unleashes on his father as soon as he sees him. He pummels Silas relentlessly, seemingly killing him, only for the episode's big twist to come clear -- this was all a setup by Mr. Nobody.

It turns out these memories are false neural implants, planted by Nobody (alan Tudyk) himself. It's not explained whether he hacked and repurposed Grid, or if he simply infected Vic's mind like a virus and made him hallucinate, but what's for certain is the deceitful memories drove the hero to the point of cold-blooded murder. Nobody gloats this is the price to pay for interfering with his kidnapping of Niles and leaves, laughing at poor Vic.

As he cradles his father's lifeless body, Vic is in utter disbelief, regretful of how he was so easily tricked. There's no way to keep such an act a secret, and once word gets out, Vic will probably face prison time. Even if he blames it on someone else, he's just not the kind of person to keep this traumatic experience to himself. Thanks to Nobody, his Justice League hopes are dashed, and so too are his ambitions of making his dad proud.

Streaming now on DC Universe, Doom Patrol stars Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele, Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor, Diana Guerrero as Crazy Jane, Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody, April Bowlby as Rita Farr, Joivan Wade as Vic Stone, and Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder.
