Kathleen Rose Perkins joined the cast of Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. as the title character's mother — and supervisor at the hospital where the teen wonder is undergoing her residency.

Perkins will play Dr. Clara Hannon, who is the hospital chief of staff in the Disney+ reboot of medical dramedy Doogie Howser, M.D. Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who was the lead in the Disney Channel family comedy Andi Mack, stars as Lahela "Doogie" Kameāloha. Doogie, 16, has to navigate her education with her social life and mixed-race background as the daughter of an Irish mother and Hawaiian father.

Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., is created by executive producer Kourtney Kang, who was a writer and held varied producing roles for How I Met Your Mother throughout its nine-season run. Kang also was co-executive producer for Fresh Off the Boat for three seasons. Perkins appeared in six episodes of Fresh Off the Boat as Mey-Mey.

The original Doogie Howser, M.D. starred Neil Patrick Harris as Doogie and ran for four seasons on ABC from 1989 to 1993. The reboot inverts things, making Doogie a girl, changing the setting from Los Angeles, and making her mother, not her father, the physician who guides her in her career.

Disney+ has given Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., a full, 10-episode pickup. Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. will be written by Kourtney Kang, who executive produces the project with Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar and Dayna and Jesse Bochco.
